Charitable Organizations Helping in Africa

Groups Tackling a Sea of Problems and Looking for Help

Abe
If you watch the news much, you know there is a great need for charitable organizations to help in many different places in Africa. From the AIDS pandemic to the Darfur genocide and the lingering effects of war in Congo, charitable organizations in Africa have many enormous tasks and need support from people who can offer it. If you are interested in giving to reliable charitable organizations doing this hard work and trying to help Africa help itself, there are plenty of charities to choose from. Below is a list of some of them. Of course, check them out yourself before committing to a donation. Links for all of them are listed at the end of the article.

Save The Children. This organization aligns itself with grassroots organizations working with in certain communities. Currently, it has operations all over Africa, including Sudan. In fact, it has a special emergency fund set up to help there. Issues STC concerns itself with include providing food, shelter, health care, protection, and recreation for children. STC is based in Connecticut and currently has the highest possible rating from Charity Navigator. www.savethechildren.org

Oxfam International. This charitable organization operates under the motto "united for a more equitable world." It's goal is to help provide for the ongoing and emergency needs of people in many of the world's poorest countries. Many of these countries are situated on the African continent. Oxfam currently works in sixteen countries in Africa. Oxfam is divided into national branches in countries like the USA, England, and Australia, with people from these countries working together in the field. Oxfam is also involved in advocating for more fair trade agreements and other political issues.

Doctors Without Borders This charitable organization won the Nobel Prize for its work dealing with patients in poor and war torn nations during dire emergencies and through ongoing projects. Currently, the group, known by its French acronym MSF, engages doctors, nurses, sanitation experts, and other medical personnel in helping people in over 60 countries including Niger, Congo, and Darfur.

UNICEF. Unicef is more than just those cardboard trick-or-treating boxes. The United Nations Children's Fund works worldwide to provide for children in a variety of ways: basic survival, education, protection from slavery and abuse, AID-HIV care, and other important areas. In Africa, specially, "survival" is a main concern in the regions where Unicef operates, regions where food, water, and safety all rare commodities and the effects of AIDS are massive. Unicef works in countries like Congo, famine-stricken Niger, Sierra Leone, and Chad which borders Sudan and over ten other African countries.

Red Cross/Red Crescent. This world-famous charitable organization operates extensively in Africa on each coast, in central Africa, in southern Africa. The Red Cross seeks financial help with AIDS programs, disaster relief, other disease outbreaks like Cholera, and assistance for refugees and "Returnees."

All our populated continents have countries which suffer problems. But no continent in the 21st century seems as plagued as Africa. AIDS, famine, war, rape, child trafficking, and even genocide go on here, as does malfeasance by governments running African countries and apathy by those on the outside who can help. Time and again we're told of all the preventable things killing men, women and children in Africa. The organizations above, while still themselves sometimes waylaid by corrupt governments and natural disasters, are some of the best, most effective, and most reliable organizations aiming to help be part of the solution to all these massive problems. And through them, maybe we can help too.

The name of the Organization is: "The Saint Francis Village for At-Risk children in Cameroon". We are a non-profit organization situated in the Far North Region of Cameroon. Our goal is to reduce poverty/misery in this part of the country by assisting the children who have been abandoned to themselves in their education. This is going to school or learning skills. There are many children all over the streets. We write to find out if there is anybody of good will who can assist us financially.
I cease this opportunity to sincerely thank all those men and women of good will who spend their time in assisting poor children in Africa. May God the Almighty bless you all.
