Charlie Crist Leaves the GOP to Run as an Independent

Arlen Specter knew he could not win a republican primary so he took his ball and went home. He is now trailing in the polls by double digit numbers against a more respectable candidate in Pat Toomey and most likely going to lose his seat baring some miracle. On April 29. 2010 Governor Charlie Crist knew he could not defeat Marc Rubio in a primary, so he decided to become an independent. Now since Arlen Specter had been in the Senate you almost have to feel a little different and more sympathetic about it.

Many see this as a problem for the Republican Party. There is some truth to that. The Republican Party has some divide. There is that as well in the Democratic Party, but as the senate vote on healthcare showed they will all stick together. Some brave blue-dogs in the house went against Obamacare, but that is the exception and not the norm. I really have no respect for any democratic member of the Senate and I am a democrat myself. I do still respect several Representatives though. I think Heath Shuler is probably the best democrat in congress and hope he runs for president one day. The way things are going I would not be surprised if there was a party switch by him. When you squeeze a yellow dog too long he becomes blue, and when you squeeze a blue dog too long he becomes a Republican.

Charlie Crist was often thought of as a RINO anyway. This means Republican In Name Only. He borders on conservative democrat and at best was a moderate republican. His biggest problem was his embrace of the Barack Obama Stimulus. He is still trying pump that up as being a success. People in his own party are finally starting to realize they spend much more money than really did not do any benefit. Yes some jobs were created, but the kinds of money spend does not justify artificial creation of jobs that probably wont be sustained. We also have unemployment is the high 9% range, which he said would not happened ( YOU LIE). Crist did not do himself a lot of good by embracing this.

Marc Rubio is a Latino American who came basically out of nowhere after trailing Crist by a large amount. As mentioned before Crist's embrace of the stimulus really ticked many Repubulicans, both moderate and conservatives, off and this marked the beginning of the end for him in the Republican primary. The Tea Party movement is heavily behind Rubio as are many top Republicans like former New York Mayor Rudolph Giuliani.

There are similarities in Crist and Rubio, but Christ is much more liberal. He actually seemed to be going more to the left before the announcement. He actually vetoed a bill he previously had planned to sign regarding teacher pay. Republicans supported this, but democrats did not. Crist clearly did this in order to appeal to the left. Both are much more pro-life than choice and believe in gun rights. The healthcare bill was also not really popular with either. Rubio has taken the "repeal and replace" mantle while Crist is repeal and reform. Both ultimately don't like the bill. One big difference is Crist's embrace and lobbying for the Obama stimulus while Rubio was very much against it. Crist also said he would not raise federal taxes, but he did raise income taxes in Florida despite saying he would not. A tax increase is a tax increase no matter who is picking your pocket. Rubio opposes increasing taxes and has voted against tax increases in the Florida Senate. Crist had mixed feelings on the Wall Street bailout and Rubio opposes bailouts as do a majority of American people.

With the governor Jan Brewer of Arizona signed SB 1070 to crackdown on the illegal invaders to our country; illegal immigration is a key issue once again. You find out who is patriotic and values this country and who is a traitor and wants to give everything away. Charlie Crist has supported amnesty for criminals who come to our country and break our laws. Marc Rubio believes that no amnesty should be given and that we have to first secure the borders before even trying to reform immigration. Marc Rubio does not support the Arizona law though as he sees it could lead to harassment of legal Latinos, which he is Latino. He does have a point, but Florida is not Arizona so it's a moot point.

The democrats have basically already decided that Congressman Kendrick Meek will be their candidate. I find him being the candidate very interesting. First off he is a member of the racist, but federally funded and out in the open group, The Congressional Black Caucus. Not only will this group not admit white members, but many of their members all on pardons for the hoodlums known as the Jena 6 who brutally attacked a young white man and beat him into a coma unprovoked directly by him. Had the situation been reversed the CBC would have called for the death penalty probably. He also is only in congress because he is in a gerrymandered congressional district that is 70% non-white. Meek is basically a flaming liberal voting against a ban on partial birth abortions and supports gay marriage. He also staged a sit in at the office of former Governor Jeb Bush because of a "One Florida Law". This law basically did away with considering racial preferences in state government and college admissions. The bigoted Meek wanted to keep the racism of using race as a basis in these things. Now don't blacks gripe the loudest over discrimination and racial profiling? I blacks and other groups consider those to be ok when it suits their agenda. I always thought sit ins were to protest racism not to perpetuate it. Meek does not speak for a majority of Florida and has no place in the Senate. Marc Rubio is a constitutionalist and does not believe in legislating from the bench. Charlie Crist has supported nominees to the Florida Supreme Court who were very much activist judges and want to legislate from the bench.

The real danger here is the Crist's selfishness could give the election to Meek as the Democratic Party is more united. It's funny that both Bill and Hillary Clinton, and many other Democrats, did not think Obama could handle the "3am call" or run the country, but as soon as he won the democrats rallied behind him. The republicans are not as united. Also the black race is much more united than the white race. The reality of this, I am sure Crist know this, is that he will probably take votes away from Rubio and still lose the election himself. He should ask himself if he really wants Obama to have another free ride vote in congress. Right now polls have shown Rubio leading in the three way field. I also saw one with Crist leading the three way field. None have had Meek in the lead. This is the danger of the "I am going to take my ball and go home" mentality of Charlie Crist and Arlen Specter. Before he knew he could not win the primary Charlie Crist actually spend one million on negative ads against Rubio. Former Governor Jeb Bush says Crist switched for his own interests and nothing more.

I personally think Rubio or maybe Crist will win. The main thing is we not have another Senator who is so anti-white and America as Kendrick Meek would be based on his actions and associations. Even if this election went to Meek Obama will still not have the totalitarian power that he has today. Ultimatley if you do not like what Obama is doing then you need to vote for whichever non-Democrat candidate is polling the highest.
