Charlie Sheen & Brooke Mueller Aim to Reconcile; The Dark Side of Goodtime Charlie

Rik Merchant
Even though barely a week had glided by since 'Two and a Half Men' television star Charlie Sheen, 44, had held a knife to his third wife's neck and threatened her life, he and she, Brooke Mueller, 32, want to reconcile- because they love each other- according to their respective lawyers Richard Cummins and Yale Galanter. The UK Telegraph reports that Mr. Cummins has 'filed a court motion asking a judge to dismiss a restraining order that prevents the couple from having contact'. And that Mr. Galanter has said, "They're very much in love. They want to try to work it out and want to have the best shot at doing that."

Yet, not only could a court judge legally keep them apart but also prosecutors may gun for Mr. Sheen because of the severity of his felony actions. Criminal defense attorney Roy Black said on ABC's Good Morning America, "There's no question they can proceed without her cooperation... because they can use her statements, her 911 call." During the 911 call, Ms. Mueller said, "I thought I was gonna die." According to a RadarOnline report, an affidavit from an officer who responded to her 911 call, Ms. Mueller told police that Mr. Sheen has been bodily violent in the past.

Is the desire to reconcile really for love... or money? On Ms. Mueller's part, her prenuptial agreement with Mr. Sheen increases by $1 million if Mr. Sheen stays out of jail and the marriage remains intact, as reported by RadarOnline. Close friends of Mr. Sheen have told People.com that he feels horrible about the episode. One friend also said, "He let himself down by drinking... he wants to be with his kids." But there seems to be no word directly from his lips yet that he wants to be with his wife.

For most of his acting career, which started in childhood, Charlie Sheen has been successful and well paid. He has many friends and is considered charitable- he was the 2004 spokesperson for the successful Lee National Denim Day breast-cancer fundraiser. But his life has a dark side. He has a long history not only of alcohol and drug abuse but also of physical abuse to several women.

The Dark Side of Charlie Sheen

School Days

Although a high school star athlete in baseball as well as an actor in amateur films with school pals Sean Penn and Rob Lowe, Charlie Sheen was expelled for poor attendance and poor grades shortly before graduation.

Drug & Alcohol History

Charlie Sheen has admitted to 'drinking away, doing blow, popping pills, and telling myself I wasn't an addict, because there wasn't a needle stuck in my arm'.

1981. At age sixteen, he was arrested for marijuana possession.

1990. Family intervention put him in a drug & alcohol rehab center for a month. He was sober for a year.

1998. A near-fatal overdose of cocaine put him in Los Robles Medical Center (Thousand Oaks, Calif.).

1998. He left rehab after one day; he was ordered to return.

1999. His request to reduce his drug probation was denied.

Crime History

1982. At age seventeen, Charlie Sheen was arrested for his five-day crime binge at the Beverly Hills Hotel, where he stole credit-card receipts from residents' trash and made phone orders using the credit card numbers.

Sex Scandals

1995. While married to model Donna Peele, Charlie Sheen testified under oath at the trial of Hollywood madam Heidi Fleiss that he had spent $50,000 on 27 of Fleiss' $2,500-a-night sex workers.

Physical Abuse to Women

From 1990-1992, before the physical abuse era, Charlie Sheen- aka The Machine, Chuckles, and Goodtime Charlie- notably dated adult cult star Ginger Lynn Allen, who after retiring from her sizable film career, then resumed it. In 1994, he dated porn actress Heather Hunter (now author, rapper, and painter). No physical abuse was reported by either woman. Per HollywoodLife.com, Ms. Hunter has said, 'I never saw that crazy side of him'.

1996. First legal offense. Mr. Sheen was dating Brittany Ashland, a porn actress in the early 1990s. He allegedly knocked her to the floor and then left her bloodied and unconscious. This first offense could play a pivotal role in his 2009 domestic violence case, a second offense. In 1997, Mr. Sheen was finally charged with misdemeanor battery to Ms. Ashland and received a year suspended sentence, a two-year probation, 300 hours of community service, and a $2,800 fine.

2000. Mr. Sheen accidentally shot his then-fiancée Kelly Preston in the arm. She later wed John Travolta.

While there was no abuse of Mr. Sheen's second wife, actress Denise Richards, 38, that involved the police, Ms. Richards has claimed in her divorce declaration that her then husband was addicted to prescription painkillers, gambling, viewing porn online, and engaging sex workers. She also claimed that he was often absent from home but when he was home, he was often verbally abusive- especially during her two pregnancies and the subsequent births of their children. She even told of two instances when Charlie Sheen shoved her and threatened to kill her. During one instance, she was holding one of their infants.

2009. The second legal offense. On Christmas Day, Friday, Mr. Sheen allegedly threatened wife Brooke Mueller with a folding knife in Aspen, Pitkin County, Colorado. She called the emergency number 911 at 8:34am. Mr. Sheen was charged and arrested for suspicion of second-degree assault, menacing, and criminal mischief. He was imprisoned in Pitkin County Jail and then released on $8,500 bond. A hearing is scheduled for Feb. 8 in Aspen.

Wives & Children

Brooke Allen Mueller: May 30, 2008-present; twin sons, Bob and Max (b. March 14, 2009)
Denise Richards: June 15, 2002-November 30, 2006 (divorce); two daughters Sam (b.2004) and Lola (b.2005).

TMZ has learned that the Pitkin County Department of Social Services is contemplating an investigation into the alleged violent incident perpetrated by Charlie Sheen on Brooke Mueller since there are children (the couple's twins) involved. A social services department is typically notified when a domestic dispute erupts between a couple with children in the home.

In most cases the court would remain stoic in the belief the couple should stay apart and/or the children removed from the home until some intervention and supervised reunification could take place. But, hey, it's Hollywood..they will be back together as a couple, making headlines again soon, and scarring the psyche of the children who observe ongoing abuse.
