Charlie Sheen: the New Poster Boy of Movie Stars Gone Bad

In his earlier years, I actually liked Charlie Sheen. I thought him handsome, talented and on his way to becoming a major star, as in the movie Major League. I was wrong on one count, the last. The Charlie Sheen of today is a train wreck ready to happen, or has happened. He does not need anyone to throw him under the bus because he is doing that himself, even if his mind tells him otherwise. Like many stars before him, Charlie Sheen has now become the poster boy of movies stars gone bad.

My idol worship for Charlie, little though it was, started to fade when his association with Heidi Fleiss made the Internet headlines. I always knew he was a bit of a bad boy, but prostitutes. I remember thinking, "Charlie! As good looking as you are, you do not need hookers." After that or around the same time, came the drug and alcohol abuse, rehabs and God. Ok, everyone deserves a second or third or fourth chance, so when I saw an interview where Charlie said he had found God in his life and proclaimed himself a born again Christian, I was ready to grant forgiveness.

After his father, Martin Sheen intervened and had Charlie committed to yet another rehab facility, he seemed to straighten out a bit, except for the occasional tryst with a trollop or two, and domestic violence charges. However, Charlie's good boy persona has not lasted; and everyone knew, it was just a matter of time. Even a hit television show could not keep the good in Charlie going. He just had to mess up.

Although Charlie says he is not on drugs or alcohol, which I am sure his adoring fans believe (sarcasm here), his latest antics suggest otherwise. However, I still like to give Charlie the benefit of the doubt.

Perhaps Charlie is clean and sober. Perhaps his long on-again off-again love affair with drugs, alcohol and women are behind him. However, what could be behind these latest theatrics? What is his new addiction? Could it be himself? I mean to hear him talk, he is the greatest everything in the world and for those who do not believe in his greatness and power, he threatens to show them by destroying them.

Oh! Poor Charlie! I hate to be the one to tell you, but you are not great. You are on a downward spiral with no common sense left to stop you. You now reign as the official all-time poster boy of movies stars gone bad.
