Charlie Sheen Roast Timing is Odd

Taping Sept. 10; To Air Sept. 19

As many are pondering the upcoming Charlie Sheen roast to take place on Comedy Central in September, let's look at another angle.

No, not the angle that the show will first air on Comedy Central Sept. 19, opposite the very first appearance by his "Men" replacement, Ashton Kutcher. Sure, that is a very intriguing angle and will be hashed out many times. Not here. This is the angle in which the raunchy, below-the-belt, anything goes roast will be taped Sept. 10.

Take a look at that Saturday date once again. On Saturday Sept. 10, people will gather to rip and spew venom, not only on Sheen, but anything else that pops into their mind. Now, look at the date of that following Sunday. It's Sept. 11. Not any Sept. 11. It's the 10th Anniversary of the terrorist attacks that shook the nation, and still has impact today. Please note that Sheen himself once ranted on about 9/11 being a conspiracy. Nice time to bring such matters up again. Oh, but it will not air until Sept. 19. Yeah, that matters, doesn't it? Nobody will hear about it before that, right? Agents, public relations and marketing managers might want to look closer and see if they really want their compassion, sensitive, albeit comedian, actors, actresses, to make such an appearance. Note the date: Today it is Tuesday, July 5 and this was published today. Meanwhile, on my radio show on the same date, I questioned the timing. OK, for both reasons.

It being the 10th anniversary and to show up "men" on CBS. The last one I get. The following is from the press statement released today: COMEDY CENTRAL has secured one of Hollywood's most notorious bad boys. The network announced today that Charlie Sheen will be the next Roastee.

The "COMEDY CENTRAL Roast Of Charlie Sheen" will tape in Los Angeles on Saturday, Sept. 10. The Roast will premiere on COMEDY CENTRAL on Monday, Sept. 19 at 10 p.m. ET/PT. "You could say I've been providing kindling for this Roast for a while," said Sheen. "It's time to light it up. It's going to be epic." "Charlie has assured us that nothing will be off limits in this Roast... which scares even us," said Kent Alterman, head of original programming and production, COMEDY CENTRAL.

How about doing a live broadcast on Sept. 19? That would solve the problem.
