Charlie Sheen's Star Fading as Hollywood, America Move On

Robert Dougherty

Charlie Sheen stories flooded the entire country just a few months ago. However, America's news cycle has turned against Sheen, as he no longer inspires massive attention and speculation. Of course, since he hasn't said or done anything crazy in some time, it is easier to ignore him. But as the country focuses on other things, he is quietly paying the price for his latest downfall.

As Sheen dominated all news back in February and March, he found time to bring his "goddesses" along with him. But his latest posse of girlfriends has gone away now that the interview blitzes are over. In fact, Sheen's final goddess, Natalie Kelly, was reported to have moved out Monday following the departure of Rachel Oberlin.

While the actor may actually be single for the moment, he has other things to distract him, like the need to find work. Since his "Violent Torpedo of Truth" theater tour bombed, he will need other sources of income before long. As such, there were rumors that Sheen had signed a deal with Lionsgate Television for a new sitcom, which would be even more racy and self-deprecating than Two and a Half Men, if possible.

However, Lionsgate had no comment on the rumor, while TBS denied that it was interested in buying the project, according to Entertainment Weekly. After the madness of the last several months, every studio in Hollywood has to think carefully on whether employing Sheen is worth the risk. In addition, since the country appears to have moved on from him at the moment, the short-term publicity boost in hiring him may not pay off that much.

But even if Sheen wears out his welcome with another studio and show runner, the aftermath may not be as brutal as it was with CBS and Chuck Lorre. In fact, it seems Lorre is nowhere near letting it go, considering the rumored plans he has to kill off Sheen's Two and a Half Men character.

According to TMZ, one of Lorre's ideas for Two and a Half Men's return is to kill off Charlie Harper by having him drive his car over a cliff. There's no doubt where he got this idea, since Sheen drove his car off of Mulholland Drive twice. This will ensure that Sheen can't even come back in a guest starring role, paving the way for Ashton Kutcher to buy the Harper house.

Lorre may still be unable to let go of the past with Sheen, yet America at large is a different story. These stories would have dominated the blogosphere months ago, but they are met with indifference now. As it isn't fun to bash or mock Sheen anymore, his downfall has now become more sad and predictable than entertaining.
