If your kids love animals, make it a point to visit some of the following places for animal lovers in the Charlotte area. Not only will you gain a new appreciation for certain types of birds and animals, you will also learn something about them that perhaps you did not know before. Kids of all ages will enjoy getting up close to nature.
Charlotte Nature Museum. When my kids were small, the Charlotte Nature Museum was always one of our favorite places to visit. You can observe live animals up close, walk among free-flying butterflies, and observe insects in their natural habitat. We all had our favorite animal at the museum. Why not visit and find your own favorite? The Nature Museum also hosts various educational opportunities throughout the year.
Carolina Raptor Center. The Carolina Raptor Center is a wonderful place to visit. Not only can you learn about birds of prey and other birds, you can observe them. Most of the birds at the center are being rehabilitated, having been injured in some way or found motherless. There are some wonderful educational programs at the Raptor Center, and you and your children can get a new appreciation for these beautiful creatures -- as well as learn what to do if you ever come across an injured bird. My kids used to always find injured birds when they were small, and the Carolina Raptor Center was the first place we would call. They are quick to help and provide answers. Even if they are unable to take a bird for some reason, they are always willing to provide the name of someone who can.
Lazy 5 Ranch. For an absolutely wonderful time with your family, visit the Lazy 5 Ranch. The ranch is on the outskirts of Charlotte, in Mooresville. You can pet live buffalo, llama, deer, antelope, zebra, and giraffe. You can even let them eat out of your hand. To make the most of this great place, make sure and take the wagon ride. The wagon will take you off of the main trail and you will have the opportunity to get closer to the animals. Pack a lunch, and enjoy your time at the Lazy 5 Ranch. Also, you may want to purchase some extra feed for the animals while at the ranch. Your children will be delighted when the animals eat right from their hands.
Enjoy time with your family by spending some time with the animals and birds in the Charlotte area. Your kids will love it, and so will you!
