Charlotte's Best Local Organic Grocery Stores

A List of Organic Markets in Charlotte, North Carolina

J.A.S.
Adhering to a Vegan or Vegetarian diet can be a challenging task without knowing your way around the organic produce scene in Charlotte, NC. Not Vegan or Vegetarian? Organic produce is still making a name for itself in the United States among many who seek a healthier diet and lifestyle. I have compiled a listing of organic markets and grocery stores in the Charlotte/ Mecklenburg County area, complete with contact information.

Charlotte's organic community is growing fast with big name chains like Trader Joe's and Whole Foods opening stores across our region. It's great that the natural lifestyle is becoming popular, but what about the smaller mom and pop stores that started it all? Purchasing organic products from our locally owned businesses not only stimulates our economy, it also saves on polluting the environment because most, if not all of the organic products sold in the markets below are locally grown here in North Carolina.

28 Years ago, Healthy Home Market was known as the Home Economist, a popular shopping destination for those interested in living and learning about a healthy lifestyle. This locally owned market provides organic produce, locally grown, to Charlotte, NC and surrounding areas with its 4 locations.

Not only do they provide organic produce, they also offer vitamins and other organic and holistic merchandise, including pet food. Their educated staff is eager to assist customers with questions and offer advice on healthier living as well as recipes. The South Boulevard location also provides many free public events centered around health and wellness education for the community.

There is so much to see and experience at the Healthy Home Market. Check out the "pour it yourself honey" and fresh ground peanut butter. Many bulk food items are available, and the pricing is reasonable given they are a locally owned and operated business. Try some of the bulk spices and herbs if you don't already grow your own.

It is very easy to find items at any location without animal by-products, and if you have any questions the staff is more than happy to assist you. The variety of products offered is very comparable to the national organic/health food chains and you are sure not to be disappointed. Healthy Home Market is definitely first on the list of organic markets here in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Berry Brook Farm Natural Food Pantry

1257 East Blvd
Charlotte, NC

Berry Brook Farm Natural Food Pantry is the original and probably most well-known natural food market in Charlotte, NC. It was founded in 1972, and is now expanding with their newly-announced franchise opportunities. Located on East Boulevard in the prestigious Dilworth community, Berry Brook Farm is easy to spot with their trademark red wagon sitting outside.

Being a smaller shop with a hometown feel, Berry Brook Farm Food Pantry can offer more personalized service to their customers. They have a nice selection of organic produce, as well as cruelty-free health and beauty aids, nutritional supplements, and a refreshing juice bar. Try their 100% natural smoothies that are sugar and additive free, or a healthy soup and sandwich combination. Call ahead to see what their selections are for the day. My personal favorite is the Hummus and Tabbouleh wrap and the West African Peanut soup.

If you want a small town feel paired with products for a natural and healthy lifestyle, then you would enjoy shopping at Berry Brook Farm Natural Pantry.
