Charlton Heston: Finally Dead

Charlton Heston is dead at the ripe old age of 250 years; why is that the most miserable usually live the longest on this planet?

I wonder if the embalmer was finally able to pry the rifle from his cold dead hand.

This is how I view his death: another violent right wing gun advocate is in the grave and we're that much closer to evolving out of the cave he lived in and demanded we all live in.

As a spokesman for the National Rifle Association (NRA), Heston lived long enough to ensure tens of thousands of people were killed in the US by guns; students, shoppers, workers, friends, children, neighbours, thugs and criminals, all got to kill or be killed with rifles, hand guns and automatic weapons.

As a beacon of civil rights, Heston spent his miserable, vile life guarantying that domestic violence had higher incidents of violent death and mentally ill kids had access to guns to shoot their fellow students and homicidal sociopaths were secured the right to go on a killing rampage.

Like Jerry Falwell, Heston can boast the dubious honour of having left the world infinitely worse off then when he entered it, congratulations! I'm sure you made God and your mother proud, Charlton.

It's endlessly ironic that such a knuckle dragging, primitive ape of a person made the movie Planet of the Apes.

I'm confused as to why you care about Charlton Heston's views on the NRA or his views on anything else for that matter. You live in Canada, not the U.S. Maybe you should worry about Canada instead.

Harsh words about a dead guy.

Check the statistics on Kennesaw Georgia, the only city in the US where gun ownership is mandatory by homeowners. Check the crime in states where carry/conceal permits are easier to obtain than other states. You will see that in most of the those states crime is much lower than states where carry permits are harder to obtain.

I've tried to honestly answer some of your concerns and questions. I fear it will just lead to more personal attacks. That's okay. You conclude and generalize yourself. Regarding Israel, for instance. I challenge you to go and express an anti Semitic viewpoint in Jerusalem and then go next door to Cairo and start "railing" against the Muslims. Which place is going to get you arrested? I can tell you. No guessing necessary. You will be sitting in a Cairo jail. All cultures, RJT, are not equal. As far as Canada goes... I can say only this. You are not immune from attack. Spain, Britian and others have been attacked by Islamic terrorists. You will have your turn. Then you could turn the other cheek, but that is kind of biblical. Okay, you can be a doormat and accept Sharia law. And I'm going to still bet you're cute when you're pissed.

Well, RJT, I am glad you have pulled my psychological profile. I just don't honestly understand why you are so quick to the personal attack. It's not a power struggle. I can't knock you off of AC. In fact, I would never want to do that, or silence you. Rail away, but be prepared for opposing views. And try not to attack so personally. Why would I care about who you are? Because an anonymous opinion is, I think, cowardly. If you are proud of your views, as you seem to be on your web site, why not just put your name out here on AC for all to see?

"More Guns, Less Crime" is a study done within scientific parameters. It compares the locales where concealed carry gun laws are in effect and the crime vs where guns are banned and the crime. It found that crime is less in areas where criminals know are unsure of whether the person they might plan to attack is armed. The criminals will have guns, regardless of law. That is why they are, well, criminals. This does not mean that the average US citizen is just itching on the trigger and just can't wait to do it up big and go to war. Quite the opposite, really, if you study US history. The title is quite logical, too. Think of it like a store warning that they video you. A thief is less likely to steal.

I don't believe I ever said I DON'T fear the current administration. Believe it or not, we are not all receiving our marching orders from Dick Cheney. I have real problems with GWB and the Republicans. This country was founded because of the suppression of rights under the British King. We honestly do believe that rights granted by God, and entity you don't confess to, which is fine. Honestly. Even if you don't accept the premise of a creator, you can interpret that to mean that the right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness is granted by nature. Government by it's very nature is monopolistic. You can't chose another government to govern you while living in the same locale. You can move, yes. Although some governments don't let citizens leave. If the belief is that government is the provider of rights and liberty, then it can give the liberties and it can take them away, depending on who is in control. I hope this helps you to understand the perspective. Respect

on the issue. You don't feel comfortable with me? Good. I am not here to be your friend. I really don't care about your picture, really, really.

  • Richard Davis4/8/2008

It's because you don't understand that you rail. I'm not under any due stress to understand Canada and the strange attitude of moral superiority you have up there. If you want to think what you think, fine. It doesn't make it so. If you are trying to say that we have a "cowboy" mentality here in the US, you are right! If you are trying to say that because firearms are available here that that somehow equates to a seething war like mentality amongst the population, you are welcome to your opinion, wrong as it is. You are also welcome to think Heston wasted his life and that the world is better off with him dead. You choose to dismiss a study completed from genuine statistics -- "More Guns, Less Crime", and that is fine. Just be prepared for others with an opposing viewpoint to do the same, which I have done. We don't fear being under constant attack here, but we do fear our liberties will be taken away by those who mean well and want other to fall lockstep, without benefit of h

(the rest): killing millions in the name of making the Soviet Union a place for Peace and Paradise on Earth.

No RJT -- and BTW, why not identify yourself?-- this article is about you. What difference does it make to you sitting up there smugly in Canada about gun violence in the US? Don't come here, please! You are proving my point about emotions ruling your decisions, when the evidence is compiled and verified and it is "rubbish". Once again, don't confuse my little liberal mind with facts, as my mind is made up. Do you think banning guns will keep the guns out of the hands of the killers? We tried that with booze here. It was a grand failure. I don't see a war happening between liberals and conservatives, because liberals will hardly debate much less actually fight. And you can't bring a fly swatter to a gun fight. Remember, we are armed. You are kind of cute though, in the way you get so enraged over everything. You are free not to believe in karma, of course, but your liberal fellow travelers sure believed in Uncle Joe Stalin when he was busy killing millions in the name of
