Charm Necklace, Jewelry of Distinctive Designer Signature

Lorraine Yapps Cohen

Remember the charm bracelet? Everyone had one. That was then and this is now. The chic form of the charm bracelet now is the charm necklace.

A singular difference exists between the charm bracelet of old and the charm necklace of today. Charms on a charm bracelet spoke of special significance to the wearer. Charms on the charm necklace speak of a jewelry designer's characteristically unique elements.

Jewelers like me have come to know the popular appeal of their design signatures. Every designer has a "look." Every design off the bench has recognizable elements unique to its maker. When the designer displays such elements all at once in a singular piece, the elements can be called charms, and the piece speaks as "signature," a representation of an entire designer line.

Jewelry designers also have their followers. Like writers on our network who follow the writing of others, jewelry designers have collectors who prefer their particular creations and purchase their designs more often than others.

I designed the "Pearl Charm Necklace" in sterling silver, as pictured, as such a signature piece. It takes its inspiration from freshwater pearl earrings, many of which I delight in fabricating from my favorite gemstone and Hallmark-designated birthstone, the pearl.

Besides pearls having that personal connection for me, pearl jewelry has the unique characteristic of making a statement of style. Pearls present as elegance in jewelry yet compliment a wardrobe of tee shirts and jeans just as well.

Whether pearls are "your thing" or another gemstone makes your day in jewelry design, make your own statement of style with what you wear around your lovely neckline. Let your favorite designer jewelry charm you!

Pretty necklace. I don't think it would go well with my western hat and cowboy boots though. :-)

Love the idea of having it be a necklace now. I liked your saying, "make your own statement" as this leaves individuality in it. Well done. You have great tastes.

Excellent! When I sold jewelry, my motto was "if you like it, wear it. Who cares if it goes with your outfit or not. Life's too short to not wear your favorite pieces of jewelry."
