This birdhouse towel holder can be made from any scrap wood you may have laying around. If you don't have any wood, your local home improvement store often has scrap pieces for a discount that can be cut into the sizes needed. This birdhouse towel holder makes a charming accent piece for a bathroom or kitchen. You can stain or paint the birdhouse to match the colors of your decor. The birdhouse I made for this project was stained. If you have a country, shabby chic or primitive styled home, this accent piece is a must-have to add to your decor.
Birdhouse Towel Holder
Supplies:
- 5 inch grapevine wreath
- 5 - 3/4" thick pieces of wood (9 1/2" L x 5 1/2" W)
- Stain
- Paint brush
- Vine of berries
- Tape measure
- Saw (optional)
- Glue gun and glue sticks
- Nails and hammer (optional)
Directions:
- Place your pieces of wood on a covered work area. In a well ventilated room, paint the front and sides of the wood pieces. Let dry, repeat for the back of the wood pieces.
Assembling the Birdhouse Towel Rack
I used a glue gun to assemble my birdhouse, but you may use a hammer and nails or wood glue. If you need guidance with assembling the birdhouse, look at the picture to help with placement of the wood pieces to form the birdhouse shape.
- Lay the first piece of wood flat on your work area.
- Measure and mark an approximate 1 1/2 inch border at each end of the piece of wood. This will be where each wall of the birdhouse will be glued.
- At the bottom of one of the wood pieces, generously place some hot glue to the side, bottom. Place this wood piece on the mark, and hold it in place for a few seconds. This is the first wall of your birdhouse. Repeat for the other wall of the birdhouse.
- On the outer edge of the first wall generously put a line of hot glue. Place the next piece of wood on the edge so that it is angled and hangs over the wall approximately 4 1/2 inches. Hold it in place for a few minutes.
- Generously place some hot glue on the outer edge of the other wall and at the top edge of the wood piece just glued.
- Place the next piece of wood so that it overlaps to match the top of the wood piece that was just glued, and to the edge of the wall.
- Put some glue on the outer edges of the grapevine wreath. Slide it in at the top of the birdhouse, and in between the walls of the birdhouse.
- Glue the berries to the top, edge roof of the birdhouse.
