Chased by an Elephant Sold at WalMart

We all have heard over the past few weeks the horrific events against youth in the form of bullying. Bullying has been and will be around as long as we continue to turn the other cheek and do nothing. But this isn't about bullying, but insensitivity toward others. The next issue is a separate issue, but along the same lines of insensitivity.

Walmart has decided to carry a controversial book, Chased by an Elephant: The Gospel Truth About Today's Stampeding Sexuality. This book is focused toward Mormon families to garner their help in stopping homosexuality. Author Janice Barret is the wife of Stephen Graham, President of Standard of Liberty. This organization is a LDS supported educational foundation which is known to be anti-gay.

Chased by an Elephant: The Gospel Truth About Today's Stampeding Sexuality concludes overcoming homosexuality is a process to include "counseling, truth, and accepting Jesus". With no scientific studies to add to the claims, the only verifiable proof Graham has to back her book is that her son resisted homosexual tendencies and is now "ex-gay".

Graham goes into more detail of youth being involved in "sexual sins" such as "fornication, homosexuality, and pornography" to name a few.

On top of Chased by an Elephant: The Gospel Truth About Today's Stampeding Sexuality, Janice Graham recently posted a blog post, "Beware the Gay Suicide Card," regarding her theory on the recent suicides. She explains there are "hidden factors associated and contributed to gay youth suicides". In her blog post Graham sites information gathered by the National Association for Research & Therapy of Homosexuals (NARTH) that suicide attempts have gone down in homosexuals who have not labeled themselves gay.

There has not been any report from corporate head quarters whether or not Chased by an Elephant: The Gospel Truth About Today's Stampeding Sexuality would be available in more than the initial 100 stores. There was post on Twitter from@ walmartnews stating they would not order more copies. With such a delicate subject matter, should Walmart give the appearance of partnering with someone with such strong beliefs?
