Chasing the Night

Chasing the Night, by Iris Johansen, is my favorite thriller novel. In my opinion, it's one of the finest adventures in her Eve Duncan series.

Whether read as a stand alone or part of her series, this novel pulls you in and quickly engages you in Eve Duncan's world. You'll learn about her fight to find her young daughter Bonnie's killer. Eve was a teen mother. Having to deal with the loss of Bonnie transformed Eve into a strong young woman. It also led to her choosing a career as a forensic sculptor. Eve uses her skills and talent to recreate a face for an uncovered skull. Working with the police, it's her hope and goal to help parents find and claim their child's remains to bring them some closure and peace. Every parents' nightmare is to have their child/children kidnapped and/or killed. Readers can relate to Eve, as they follow the strain of her relationship with live-in boyfriend, Detective Joe Quinn, and how protective she is of her adoptive daughter, Jane MacGuire, when danger nears.

With each thriller novel she writes, Iris takes us across the country and around the world with a new adventure. Her books have an intricate storyline hooking the reader from the first page to the last. The reader gets into Eve's psyche, and is a witness to her flaws, which is unique. In Chasing the Night, it brings her close an unlikely ally and her close to the edge. In Chasing the Night, Eve is asked to help CIA operative, Catherine Ling, find her son's remains, or if possible, alive. Reluctant at first, Eve agrees and helps Catherine. The Russians use Eve's desires for answers and wield it to their advantage. They search for Catherine's son and track down her husband's killer. The villianious Russians knew about Eve's desperate search to find her daughter's killer and her remains.

If you haven't had the opportunity to read any of Iris Johansen's international and New York Times best-selling thrillers, you're missing out on an exciting and enjoyable read--once picked up, they're hard to put down.
