Chauncey Billups Vs. Allen Iverson - Which NBA Guard is Better

Kevin Smith
Comparing players in the NBA is something that is rather hard to do, regardless of what one player has accomplished over another. A player could be spectacular as an individual, yet not so great in a team situation. One player, who may not be seen as one of the elite players in the NBA but has definitely made the biggest impact on a team much needing it, is NBA guard Chauncey Billups. In November, Billups was traded from the Detroit Pistons, where he won an NBA championship, to the Denver Nuggets in return for superstar guard Allen Iverson.

No one could really say which team would benefit most from the trade, but Billups has showed that thus far, the Denver Nuggets have been the more fortunate team involved in the trade. Chauncey Billups is actually from Colorado so him playing for the Denver Nuggets is like playing for his hometown. Though Allen Iverson is a spectacular basketball player, Billups seems to be working out better in team his situation than Iverson is. When the Denver Nuggets first acquired Iverson the assumption was that they would be one of the more elite teams in the NBA, and even though they did improve, the Denver Nuggets appeared to be more of a team with much talent but no showmanship.

Iverson took the Philadelphia 76ers to the NBA finals one year, only to be defeated by the Los Angeles Lakers in five games. When Billups was a part of the Detroit Pistons team, they made several trips to the NBA finals and continued to be one of the more dominant teams in the NBA. The question here is not in which one of these men is the better point guard, but rather who works out better in a team situation. Since being traded to the Detroit Pistons this season Iverson's presence has not had the same kind of impact on that team as Billups has had with the Denver Nuggets. With that said, there is still plenty of time for improvement.

Since acquiring Chauncey Billups the Denver Nuggets have gone 19-9 and actually are leading in the Northwest division at the time of this writing. He has helped this Denver Nuggets team get off to the best start in franchise history. Hopefully Billups will help his team advance pass the first-round of the playoffs, come the end of the regular season. Billups' game is all about the fundamentals of basketball. High school basketball coaches as well as college basketball coaches appreciate players who have mastered the fundamentals. Billups is the type of player who can quietly lead his team to new heights in which he has already begun to do with the Denver Nuggets.
