Chaz Bono Picture: The Face of Chastity Bono in Transistion

Hartley Engel
In case you may not know, Chastity Bono, the only daughter of the late Sonny Bono and pop diva Cher, decided to undergo a sex change operation some time ago and publicly announced her/his plans in June. The Inquisitr has obtained a recent photo of Chaz Bono (Chastity's new name), and from the look of things, Chastity Bono's transition from female to male seems to be progressing rather successfully. In other words, Chaz Bono would have no trouble convincing even the most discerning eye that she is now a he - despite the fact that, according to the Inquisitr, Chaz Bono has not revealed whether he has been surgically altered yet.

I am of two minds concerning Chastity Bono's transition from female to male - from Chastity to Chaz. While I understand that Chaz felt trapped inside a woman's body, and felt that he could not feel fully alive - indeed fully human - until she became a man, I can't help myself from thinking that he looked - for lack of a better term - better as a woman. That was my initial reaction when I looked at the side-by-side- before- and- after photos included at the end of this article - I have to be honest.

Many years ago, I was having coffee at a Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf in West Los Angeles when I noticed that Chastity Bono had sauntered in for a refreshment. She had already come out as a lesbian and never in a million years would I have thought that she would one day become a man. She appeared comfortable in her own skin, but what do I know.

But, as mentioned above, Chaz Bono definitely looks like a guy. And, quite frankly, in many cases, transgendered people have not made such a successful transition - at least not on a physical level, in my view. So I suppose that is a good thing for Chaz, as he will not have to endure the judgmental stares and glares that more androgynous-looking transgendered people must deal with on a daily basis.

I can vividly recall meeting a post-operative transgendered woman whose original gender definitely lingered, to put it mildly. But her desire to go through with the surgery clearly outweighed the risks involved - at least in her case. For her, it was worth it to endure the stares, whispers, and possible humiliation in exchange for feeling more comfortable in her own skin.

I suppose Chaz Bono feels the same way.

To me it took a very brave person to be who they really are in their heart. I think those who comment on his weight just want him to be happy and healthy after he has done the hardest part. HE dones not look comfortable in his new skin.

I agree, the spiritual life is severely lacking. Just a comment that the obesity is almost as bad as the whole sex change thing.

THINK THESE PEOPLE HAVE ENTIRELY TOO MUCH MONEY AND TIME ON THEIR HANDS AND NO SPIRITUAL KIFE!

Kinda think we have gone out of control in society at large....Honestly where is the impulse control..everyone seems to be the victim and why is it necessary to tell everyone everything? What happen to a little mystery?

it's obvious that you have little knowledge regarding trasngender people and the motivations that they have to transition. it's not about "looking better". it's about feeling like you finally have the closest thing to the body and appearance you feel you should have been born with. it's horrifying that you think that it would be a valid reason not to transition in order to stay "better looking". and chaz is not trying to "appear as a man" - he is a man. if you don't understand that fundamental concept, then you should preface your articles with your lack or knowledge and/or your bias about transgender people. your stance is not trans-positive at all. your constant flip flopping between chastity and chaz and he and she is also disrespectful. HE is Chaz. Stop referring to him as she and Chastity. It's so sad to me that people like you put stuff up on the internet and that other idiots agree with you. You should really be ashamed of yourself.

When you say most trans males are not as 'passable' as Chaz, you are showing your inexperience. Most trans males pass so well you won't know their past. Chaz has, for his own reasons combined w/ a high-profile life, decided to appear in public as male. Almost 100% of these guys are living and working right w/you and you don't even know it. IMO, and I should know, Chaz is not even close to passable yet. Give him 5 years.

I think its disgusting what she has done to herself just because she wanted to act like a man. It's all in her head...just a way of life. But what a disgrace to her parents. Sony would definately turn over in his grave...

my heart goes out to her.

Now when you say he, you mean she. Right?

I just hope she finds happiness.
