Cheap Beverages for Thanksgiving Dinner

...Because You Gotta Drink Somethin'

Michelle K. Miller
Every meal is completed by beverages-- especially your Thanksgiving dinner. The dinner food itself can cost a small fortune, so here is a short, inexpensive list of beverages that can top your meal.

1. Sweet tea: First and foremost, I am a Southern girl, so I am in love with sweet tea. When I say "sweet tea," you probably think of the almost-syrup substance at McDonald's that could put even a 300-pound man into a diabetic coma. But no, I am talking about homemade sweet tea. You can buy boxes of tea bags for super cheap. Boil the teabags atop your stove, remove the bags, put the tea liquid into a pitcher, add as little or as much sugar as you want, and refridgerate it.

2. Milk: It's Thanksgiving. You probably have used at least a gallon of milk in your cooking (especially if you're from the South.) If you have a super large fridge, or an extra one in the basement or something, pick up a gallon or two of milk for healthy beverages along with your tasty meal.

3. Sodas: Chances are, you have a house full of kids running around, and they love soda (judging by their hyper demeanor.) If you're like my family, there are a lot of soda lovers, young and old. Around the holidays especially, soda is cheap. If you use your MVP card at Food Lion, you can usually get something like four 12-packs for $11 or something like that. If you have a lot of people at your house, this is a good idea. Put a cooler out full of sodas-- or even bottled water. Just don't forget to recycle!

4. Kool-Aid: Yes, I went there. Seriously though, Kool-Aid is less than 20 cents a packet-- way less than bottled juices. With several flavors, there's something to please everyone!

5. Water: Seriously, unless you live in a city where the water bill is sky high, what's cheaper than water? And it's good for you!

Please take note all of these inexpensive, money-saving beverages with you when you're shopping... and re-shopping for your Thanksgiving dinner.
