Cheap Christmas Gifts for Your Cat

Janice Meyer
There are many cheap gifts you can get for your cat at Christmas. Cats love to play with anything that moves easily, especially if it dangles or if someone plays with the cat and pulls it on the floor. You can also swing it from above the cat, and watch the cat bat at the toy with his paws. You can even make some toys for your cat from things you have around the house. Here are some ideas for possible homemade cat toys and other needs:

You will need two empty large size thread spools, a colorful piece of strong fabric or string that does not unravel. The fabric should be about fifteen inches long, and small enough to fit through the holes in the spools. There should also be enough fabric for a knot at each end that will not slip through the holes in the spools. You might also want to glue a small fake feather on each spool to make it more enticing.

With the cold weather soon coming along, you might consider buying a sweater, or if you crochet or knit, you could make one for your cat. If you can't find a cat sweater, you might find a dog sweater in a small size for most cats. I have two cats, and one is rather small and the other is quite large. I know cats love warm, soft things to sleep in or on. If your cat has his/her own little bed, you could get a small blanket or crochet or knit one. Your cat will love his bed and stay off your bed.

WalMart has a good selection of toys for cats. Some of the less expensive toys are listed below:

Mice are always fun for cats, and those that actually run or squeak would be excellent.
A play bird on a short string attached to a pole so it could be waved as if the bird were flying.
A pretty spotted blue fish with transparent fins on a string attached to a pole for playing with your cat.
A bungee tiger with a soft white tail and white hair around its face. Hold it up, and it will 'jump' up and down like a bungee rope.

All of these toys would excite almost any cat. Another fun thing would be a soft toy filled with catnip. Your cat would enjoy this so much; he will roll and get all excited. You could also take a rather small old sock and fill it with catnip, leaving enough room to tie a knot on the open end or fasten it with a tightly knoted string, and your cat would be just as happy. These are all inexpensive ideas for cat toys.

Your cats are so lucky to have a wonderful owner like you! I don't own a cat but I like and respect them very much. I used to feed a stray one which came to my door every night. It never wanted to stay, just dropped in for a bite and a bit of cuddling and left. I always assumed it was starving, took me a while to learn that the same darned cat was eating at three or four OTHER people's houses too every night! I get a kick thinking about him even to this day!
