Celebrating with your sweetheart on Valentine's Day does not have to cost a fortune. Celebrate your love with one of these cheap date ideas for Valentine's Day.

Instead of going out to an expensive restaurant on Valentine's Day, select a dinner from a cookbook, shop for the ingredients and prepare dinner together. Dress up for the meal and eat by candle light to add flare to this cheap date idea.

If weather permits on Valentine's Day, a cheap date idea is too enjoy a picnic lunch at the lake. Try an indoor picnic lunch in front of the fireplace in cold climates. If you don't have a fireplace, a blanket on the floor with some lighted candles or white Christmas lights will work fine.

Some events can be recreated, returning to a memorable location can be a cheap date idea for Valentine's Day. Return to the spot where you had your first date, or where you first said 'I Love You' or to the place where you proposed.

If you live near the beach, a walk on the beach is a cheap date idea. Pick up shells, sea glass, etc., and turn your beach findings into a heart shaped collage or some other souvenir of Valentine's Day. If the beach is not close enough, a walk in the woods can yield the needed materials to make a heart shaped, grapevine wreath decorated with pinecones, nuts, berries, etc. to hang on your front door or over a fireplace as souvenir.

Just take a walk someplace in a natural setting and take pictures of each other while on the walk and decorate a picture frame with the items you find while on your romantic walk. The pictures you take of each other placed in a frame you decorated together makes an almost cost-free cheap date idea into a priceless memory.

Have a 'Just Dessert Date' as a cheap date idea for Valentine's Day. A Just Dessert Date describes exactly what you plan to do; have just dessert. Take your date to your favorite fancy restaurant or a trendy restaurant you've been wanting to try and just order dessert.

If you want more than just dessert to eat, then instead of having dinner in one restaurant, take your sweetheart on a cheap date by going to a few of your favorite restaurants and just ordering the appetizers. Appetizers usually come in a portion size large enough for two and cost much less than a full meal.

Here's a cheap date idea for Valentine's Day that will last all year; buy a box of children's Valentines and write down one different date idea for each week of the year. Then place them in a decorative box just like you did in school. Tell your sweetheart to remove a Valentine, and use that as a guide for your Valentine's Day date, repeat once a week for a year. If a weekly, year's worth of cheap date ideas is more than you can think up, try a years worth of monthly cheap date ideas.
