Cheap Decorating Ideas for Your Home

If you are just starting out with your first home, or want to give your current space a face lift, you need to be resourceful! There are many ways to achieve the look you desire without breaking the bank. Once you get a certain design in mind, it will be easy to scale down the cost and drive up the impact with these tips. The first thing anyone will tell you when it comes to big impact with a tiny investment is to paint, paint, paint. That is a wonderful idea. That is if you can afford the paint and are not currently renting. If you do want to paint, and the cost is scaring you away, consider painting one wall. One wall painting can look very cool if you paint a main wall in the living area a bright vivid color. It also makes sense to paint a smaller room such as an entryway or a spare bathroom. You can save money by making a few trips to your local paint store or home improvement store. Many times they offer paint that someone decided not to take home for half price or less. We once painted an entire home that we were renovating on discount paint. They usually have some neutral colors if that is your thing. Every now and then they may even have that wild color you were hoping for. My advice with the current gas prices is to call ahead. If you are very kind, they will usually let you know what they have, and may even hold it for you. Be sure to say thank you.

Now, if paint is not an option, there are still a few ideas for you to try. You can hang a beautiful quilt or other fabric across your main wall areas. You can also make a huge impact by hanging some nice photos. If art work is too expensive, you can do what we do in our home. We send our scenic or family photos to Walgreens on line, have them printed in black and white, blown up, and go pick them up in an hour. We then make a trip to Dollar General, buy several Mod black 8x10 frames for $3 a piece, and there you have it. Bonus points? Hang them in a straight line vertically or horizontally for a cool effect.

Now that you have cool walls, it is time to take a look at your furniture. If there is nothing to look at, then get thee to Goodwill, a yard sale, or Craigslist. By a piece of sturdy furniture. Does it look nice? Clean it and enjoy. Not so much? It is time to make an appointment with a slipcover. Now then, nice huh? You can also choose to buy quality built wooden furniture and simply stain it yourself. If you have any leftover discount paint......you get the idea. You can leave everything a little better than you found it. If you have a little cash to drop on furniture, but would like a deal, try model home sales and scratch and dent sections of stores.

You can always make a good impression and look trendy if you walk right by the trendy furniture, and pick up the trendy pillows. You can even do better and pick up fabric remnants to cover your existing pillows. If you are good with a sewing machine, you can make some inexpensive curtains to go along with your pillows. A quick trip to a discount store, and you can dress up your place with a few decorative candles and a statue or too. Happy decorating!
