Cheap Decorating Ideas for Your Summer Kitchen

Retro Decor, Vintage Style and More

Got the urge to change your kitchen decor this summer; perhaps after getting through a long, hard winter? Luckily, there are plenty of budget-friendly summer decorating ideas, enough to suit nearly any kitchen. Paint a wall, change some accessories and your kitchen can look refreshed and renewed for little to no money. Sit down at the table, have a tall glass of lemonade and enjoy the results.

Inexpensive Summer Kitchen Decor Can Start with Some New - but Budget-Friendly- Dishes and Glasses

It is easy to change out the winter dishes for a brand new take for summer. Stores like Target, Pottery Barn and Pier One Imports have plenty of very inexpensive dinnerware. At Pottery Barn, the Coastal Curiosity Collection features plates, napkins, place mats and even table runners with natural design.

For only nineteen dollars, it is possible to purchase a set of dipping bowls at Pottery Barn, perfect for serving seasoned olive oil to go with freshly baked summer breads. The dishes feature nature-themed designs, from butterflies to seashells.

If you'd prefer to add budget friendly summer wall decorations, just get a plate hanger from the local crafts or hardware store and put Pottery Barn's Coastal Curiosity platter on the wall. Each platter has a stunning combination of seashells, beach coral and butterflies, sure to create a summery feeling.

Orange or Red Summer Kitchen Accents Spark Appetites

Orange and red colors supposedly increase appetites. If you want family, friends or neighbors to hang out in your kitchen over casual meals this summer, why not brighten things up a bit? Use orange craft paper to cover favorite cookbooks (write the title in black ink on the spine side). Grab some inexpensive but bright orange, red and yellow dish towels. For a final touch, buy some matching dishes and consider painting one wall a bright orange or red. Paint is relatively inexpensive and even a wall can easily be repainted when the season ends.

Paint stores like Sherwin Williams have plenty of vibrant and very budget friendly summer paint colors. Go with a bright red or orange shade.

Go Retro for Cheap Summer Decorating Ideas

Plenty of stores sell everything from 50s style tables and matching chairs to vintage aprons and tablecloths. It doesn't cost big bucks to buy these items. If you like the look but can't find any retro kitchen furniture for the right price at a garage sale, consider checking out Target for the Soda Shoppe Collection, definitely very retro. The dining table features a red laminated top and distinctive metal sides. It cost $199.00 but could easily be the one piece bought to decorate your kitchen this summer, making the price a bargain and easily worth using in the winter as well.

Matching seats and dishes could easily be found at a thrift store or garage sale or you could paint unfinished furniture a bright white or red to complement the table. Finish with some solid or floral vintage dishes for some personality and flair!

These are great tips! I think I'll avoid the orange or red dishware though, as I am doing great on my weight loss!

I am just about to re-paint my kitchen, so these ideas are helpful. I have some great decorator plates with fish on them - never used and so suitable to brighten things up. There's no knowing what else I will find during my monster clean-up of my kitchen. It won't exactly be "retro" but a fresh look will be good. Thanks for sharing all this great kitchen decor advice.
