Adults can make easy and inexpensive crafts for Cinco de Mayo. Maracas are a fun Cinco de Mayo craft. Adults and older children can make the sturdier version that the whole family will definitely enjoy. The materials needed are 1 and ¼ cup cold water, 1 cup flower, ¼ cup Elmer's glue, strips of paper, balloons, wooden sticks, tape, beads, paint, glitter and any other decorations desired. In order to make these maracas sturdy a paper Mache mixture is needed. Take the water, flour and glue and mix them all together until very creamy. After making the paper Mache mixture, blow the balloon up. Be careful to not make it to big, about the size of a softball is fine. Take the strips of paper and dip them into the paper Mache mixture. Make sure to remove any excess. The next step is to take the strips and cover the entire balloon, but make sure to not cover the balloon tie. Set the project aside until it dries, generally overnight is a good timeframe. The next day the balloon should be popped and removed from inside of the ball, which should be hard by not. Place some beads or beans in to the ball and push a wooden stick into the hole. Secure the stick with tape or glue and enjoy this Cinco de Mayo craft. Ponchos are a great Cinco de Mayo craft and they are easier to make than most people realize. The materials needed are a 3 ft square of blanket or other heavy fabric, scissors and waterproof fabric makers. Take the heavy fabric and fold it in half. Use the scissors and cut a v-shaped cut in the middle of the fold. The purpose of this opening is to push a head through, so make sure it is large enough. Now it is time to decorate, take the scissors and strategically cut fringes at the bottom of the poncho. Lastly put any kind of shapes or decorations on the bottom edge using the fabric pen. This is definitely a fun and cheap Cinco de Mayo craft and more information about it can be found on www.kinderart.com.

Another fun and inexpensive Cinco de Mayo craft is to make beautiful and colorful magnets. The materials needed are assorted dried corn and beans, felt pieces, paint, paintbrush, scissors, glue, wax paper and sticky magnetic strips. Start off y painting the dried beans and corn and allowing them to dry. Make sure to paint plenty because they will be used heavily. Arrange the beans and corn in the shapes of flowers. This is a chance to let that creativity shine through. Take the felt piece and cut it into a circle that is a little bigger than the flower formations. Place glue all over the circle and then place the previously designed flower arrangement on it. Next place the felt-flower piece on the wax paper and again cover it with glue. After the flower pieces have dried, remove the wax paper. Lastly put the magnetic strip on the back and get ready to use the new magnet. Look at home.howstuffworks.com for pictures and ideas on how to arrange the flowers.
