You don't need a lot of time and money to make a fantastic homemade costume for Halloween. You can make a cheap and easy costume by rummaging in your closet and searching your local thrift store and dollar store for costume clothing and accessories. Your jewelry, makeup and craft supplies will also help you to create a cheap and easy costume. You'll need to be resourceful and creative. Learn how to mix and match whatever costume clothing and accessories you can find. If you get started early enough, you can also shop on sites like eBay or Craigslist for cheap costume items.

Cheap and Easy Pirate Halloween Costume for Women

To get started on a cheap and easy pirate Halloween costume, find a pair of pants or a skirt in a dark color such as black, navy or brown. A short skirt is ideal for a cheap and easy women's pirate costume, but any skirt will do. If the skirt is old or worn, cut up the bottom hem to a ragged edge and fray the edge slightly. Add an overskirt in a different color and pattern if you like. You can also create a pirate overskirt by using a large scarf. Find a white button-down shirt or halter top. If you can't find a white top, substitute another color or pattern such as red, black, navy, gray, brown or black and white stripes. Find a vest in a dark color. Get two wire coat hangers and bend them into the shape of fairy wings. Then stretch the sheer fabric over the hanger fairy wings and hot glue it on. Decorate the wings with glitter fabric paints. Attach the elastic straps to the wings so that you can wear them on your shoulders under the straps of your tank top. Wear nude hose and green slippers with pom poms attached to the tops. Style your hair up in a bun and tie it with a blue ribbon. Make a cheap and easy fairy wand out of a slender tapered wooden dowel from the craft store. Attach the emblem to the chest of your black leotard using fabric adhesive or hot glue. Find a cheap yellow ladies' belt at the thrift store or paint another color belt with yellow craft paint. Make some small rectangular envelopes from cardboard, paint them yellow and attach them to the belt. Fashion a simple black cape from black fabric or from a black twin sheet.

To make a cheap and easy Catwoman Halloween costume, get a black headband, some cardboard, some black felt fabric and a hot glue gun. Cut the cardboard into triangles and cover them in the black felt, attaching it with hot glue to make cat's ears. Then use the hot glue to attach the cat's ears to the headband. If you already have a close-fitting dress with a flared skirt, you can make a cheap and easy 50s Halloween costume. However, you may also be able to find this type of dress very cheaply at a thrift store. Find a white apron, a basic belt, a small white scarf and white gloves. Style your hair into tight curls by wearing sponge rollers overnight. Wear pearl earrings, studs or clip-ons. Tie the scarf around your neck and make up your face with a little foundation and lots of face powder with red lipstick, light eyeshadow and mascara. Wear nude hose and high heeled pumps. Carry accessories such as a spatula, a rolling pin or a broom to make your 50s housewife costume complete.
