Cheap & Easy Kid Friendly Craft Idea

How to Make an Inexpensive Gift for Valentine's Day or Mother's Day

Nikki
Expressing your love or appreciation for that special someone in your life doesn't have to cost a lot of money. The crafty gift illustrated below was very inexpensive and easy to create. It would make a wonderful present for kids to give for their teacher, mother, or grandmother for Valentine's Day or Mother's Day. It would also make a cute cheap gift for a secret pal or best friend. Don't forget to take a peek at the attached photo for an illustration of the finished project.

Here are the instructions on how to make the "bouquet of flowers and goodies". Feel free to use your imagination and creativity to put your own unique spin on this fun and easy kid-friendly craft.

Items Needed:
Flower Pot, Vase, or Mug
Scissors
Construction paper (color of your choice)
Foil heart stickers
Plastic bendable straws
Glue
Candy
Ribbon
Shredded paper or popcorn
Note card
Flower seed packets
Cartoon cutouts (optional)

We used a white flower pot and took some red heart foil stickers and stuck them all over the outside of the pot.

Next, we cut some flower shapes out of construction paper. The person we made this gift for loves Olive Oyle, so we found some cartoon pictures of Olive Oyle, cut them out, and glued them in the center of the flowers. You could just cut out circles from construction paper or draw smiley faces in the center. There are so many possibilities.

After cutting out the flowers, it was time to glue them to the stems. We used plastic bendable straws for the stems. We lined one end of the straw with glue and coated a small area on the back of the construction paper to make the flowers stick to the straw. To keep the straws from flopping around we lined the bottom of the vase with some popcorn peanuts to give them some stability. You could also use colorful shredded paper, marbles, or candy corn to stabilize things.

After putting the flowers in place, we added in our recipient's favorite candy and some packets of flower seeds. The candy and flower seeds were one of the main parts of the gift and helped to add depth and spice things up a bit. As the candy gets eaten, the straw stemmed-flowers will stay in place if you've used something to stabilize them (as mentioned above).

We topped our creation off with some colorful ribbon and a homemade card.

Cute idea! I might try this project with my 3 year but use his photo in place of the cartoon cutout. Grandmas will love it!
