Cheap, Eco Friendly Way to Descale a Kettle

3cardmonte
It is very easy to let a kettle become incredibly scaly, because if you can't see the dirt then you don't think about cleaning it, it's fair enough, it happens!

But then when you suddenly do take a long look at the kettle, you realise quite how dirty it is!

Commercial kettle descalers are not only expensive, but loaded with incredibly harsh chemicals that are potentially harmful for you and the environment.

Below is a method that will descale your kettle naturally and very cheaply!

You will need.

Half a bottle of white vinegar

The juice of three lemons or a half of a bottle of lemon juice

A sponge and some rubber gloves

Fill the kettle halfway and boil

Add the lemon juice to the water and leave for 30 minutes

Add the vinegar to the kettle and leave in for an hour, if the lime scale on your kettle is very bad, you may want to leave it for longer.

Boil the kettle (you must NOT leave the kettle at this point when it is boiling, the mixture will foam and should not be left unattended) and pour the mixture away

Allow the kettle to cool slightly and wipe the insides of it

Fill the kettle with water and boil again

Pour the water away and rinse the kettle a couple of times until the smell of vinegar has disappeared.
