Cheap Food and Drinks in New Orleans

Eat, Drink and Walk Through New Orleans

Welcome to my first hand account for having cheap fun in New Orleans. All words in this article represent my personal opinion and experience in New Orleans. Want to do New Orleans cheap? Allow me to share with you some low budget tips so you can make the most of this interesting party city. You can eat healthy and get drunk without spending too much money in New Orleans. My beverage of choice for my most recent trip was a Kettle One Bloody Mary. In New Orleans, a Bloody Mary comes with the special addition of Creole spices and pickled green beans.

Get your cheap drinks in New Orleans where the pour is "oh so heavy". My suggestion would be to party on Decatur Street, it leads directly into-or out of-the French Quarter. Order up cheap well drinks-loaded with cheap liquor-for $3 to $5, OR treat yourself-like I did-to top shelf varieties for $5 and up. Well-drinks and draft beers are especially cheap during happy hour. If you plan to party for several consecutive days remember, "Cheap liquor gives you a bad hangover."

Choose your cheap meals in New Orleans wisely to maintain a healthy Diet. Tuesday's and Thursdays eat 12 varieties--several vegetarian and a couple vegan--of $1 tacos at Molly's Folly on 1107 Decatur Street in New Orleans. Choose soft or hard shell and order up some drinks. People-watch while you eat healthy breakfast food and cheap gourmet sandwiches al fresco for $7 to $10 late into the night at Café Envie 1241 Decatur Street. Eat similar food for a couple dollars cheaper in a more relaxing indoor or outdoor setting with free Wi-Fi at La Boucherie Coffee House-not open late.

Venture into a residential neighborhood for a cheap bite to eat off the beaten path and a bit of a New Orleans architectural tour. Drink coffee and $3 pieces of gourmet cakes or a $5 falafel sandwich while you surf the net using the free Wi-Fi until midnight at FloraGallery & Coffee Shop on 2600 Royal Street (indoor and outdoor seating).

Want to do health food grocery shopping in New Orleans to stock your hotel fridge and help save some money? Walk one block up to 2706 Royal Street to the Mardi Gras Zone Grocery and Café. This independently owned store offers the best selection of healthy beverages in the city with Honest Tea, Sweet Leaf Tea, Odwalla, Vitamin Water and more. At the Mardi Gras Zone Grocery and Café you can buy organic dairy products, healthy chips, tofu, energy bars, mineral water and soy milk. The gourmet prepared food section is currently under construction and coming soon. Enjoy!
