The Must Have for Your Graduating Teen

Yes, mom and dad, your baby has grown up and now is about to head off to college! This is a very stressful time for you parents. This will probably be the first time that your child is going to be on their own without mom and dad there to tell them what to do. Yes, like I said very stressful! Don't panic though, your child will need you while there off learning to be adults. I mean who else are they going to get to wash there clothes? A person can only live so long on dorm food before they come running home for mom's famous home cooked meals!! There are things you can buy them to help make you and your child feel more secure.

So I have put together this list of cheep graduation gifts to help your child get started out in their new life!! But first of all let me just say that what ever you decide to get your child for graduation make sure you add in a package of stationary and a roll of stamps!! Now they have no excuse not to write you!!

Almost all of the things on my list can be purchased at your local dollar stores, Wal-Mart, Target, etc.

1. An Alarm Clock (then theres no reason to be late for class!!)
This is a very good item to get for your graduate. It can be bought cheaply from Wal-mart, target, or just a dollar store.

2. Gift Basket filled with various items they will need
Tylenol (for the hangovers...you know its gonna happen at least once!)

Single size laundry detergent (for them to at least attempt to do their own laundry - hmm..might want to write directions on how to do laundry!)

Stationary and stamps (see above..)

Shampoo and Conditioner

Tampons (for the girls or course!)

Shaving Cream and razors

Raman Noodles (So you know there not starving)

Small photo album filled with graduation pictures and family pictures (for when they get home sick)

Roll of quarters (for laundry or to just call home )

That is just some of the things that would go good into a gift basket. Almost all can be purchased at your local dollar store! A cheap, but great gift!!

3. An Organizer (yeah there going to need it)
This dose not have to be one of those fancy electronic organizers or PDAs. Just a simple one where your graduate will have a place to write all their homework down in. This can be purchased at your local dollar store, Wal-Mart, or any place you can buy office supplies at.

4. A Lap Desk (perfect for all around the dorm room)
This is a perfect gift for your child to have to do their homework on. With this they will have the option to work at there desk or to lay in bed!! There are quite a few place online where you can order this.
The one that is my favorite is Smart Lap, Lap Desk with Folding Legs & Carry Case.
Also there is a storage inside this lap desk for your pencils, pens, papers, etc This Lap desk can be purchased for 24.99 online from

5. Shower Shoes (community bathrooms..need I say more?)
This can be purchased at any Wal-Mart store. A must have!!

6. A phone Card (perfect for them to call home)
This can be purchased at Wal-Mart and also at almost any local gas station.

7. Coffee Maker (there going to need a pick me up!)
This is a great gift for your graduate to take to college. We all know that kids are going to need something to make them wake up in the
morning and stay up during those important classes. You can buy this at Wal-Mart, Target, Dollar stores, etc

8. Resume writing books
This is defiantly a must have for when your child graduates from college!! This can be purchased at almost any book store: Barnes and Nobles, Books-a-Million, etc
Gainfully Employed : A Guide to Resume Writing, Job Hunting, and Effective Interviewing, This is a good one and only costs $12.00 at Books-a-Million!!! You can also order of the books from their online website.

9. Sheets
This is very cheap and very useful! Would probably be best to get them 2 packs for the emergencies! Kids are messy, they may be adults now
but there still going to be messy!! You can buy this at Wal-Mart, Target, Dollar stores, etc

10. Iron (you might have to show the guys how to use it...)
This is a great item to have. They can go to class looking neat and clean. First impressions matter! You can buy this at Wal-Mart, Target, Dollar stores, etc

11. A mini Refrigerator
I know this is not a cheap present thats why i am putting it last on the list. Maybe if you visit some garage sales they are usually pretty cheap there. There is also a site called Craigslist where you can find your town on it and see what people are selling. I use this site ALL the time!! Its where i got my daughters bed from. Everything is used but priced decently!

I hope that this list helps you in deciding what graduation present to get your kids!!
