Cheap, Great Kabob's and Gyros: Annandale Virginia's Food Corner
Afghan Cuisine in Annandale at a Very Reasonalbe Price
Annandale, VA 22003

I went to the Food Corner Kabob for lunch, and ordered a Gyro. The first thing I noticed was that the restaurant does not skimp on the meat. There was about half a pound of beef and lamb, very tastefully seasoned, on the Gyro, as well as lettuce, onions, tomatoes, and a very good white sauce, which was spicy and very rich in flavor. Even without a side dish, the Gyro left me very full and satisfied. I noticed that the restaurant also had an extensive amount of vegetarian food, which is also quite good. The prices at lunch are very reasonable; my girlfriend and I ate there for under $15. Kabobs are a little bit more expensive, but they are very rich and filling, and certainly worth it if you have the extra cash.
For drinks, the Food Corner Kabob has the standard selection of sodas, plus a wide variety of imported juice beverages. I drank an imported mango juice drink. It was very flavorful, and went nicely with the spices on my Gyro. The restaurant serves no alcohol.
Food Corner Kabob has a very unique type of interior decoration: the majority of each wall is covered with pictures of Afghanistan, many from postcards, and a few that I recognized from National Geographic. The effect is quite pleasant. Also, the restaurant is impeccably clean. Few restaurants are dirty, but this one in particular struck me as being particularly well maintained.
The service at Food Corner Kabob is courteous but minimal. Customers do not have a waiter - they simply order at the counter, sit down wherever they please, and pick up their food when their number is called. The men at the counter are very courteous and prompt, but if you want to be led to your seat and handed a wine list by a waiter in a white tux, you should consider eating somewhere else.
The Food Corner Kabob does have catering and take-out services available. For their contact information and homepage, click here. The restaurant is conveniently located on Little River Turnpike, a major thoroughfare in Annandale. Its location near the corner of John Marr Road and Little River Turnpike makes the trip there easy from almost any neighborhood in Annandale. The restaurant is also very close to Backlick Park and Poe Terrace Park, which, when combined with its take-out option, makes it ideal for organizing a small picnic.
