Cheap Halloween Costume Ideas Under $30

Jamie Brown
Halloween is a fun, exciting time for people young and old, but it's also an opportunity for theme stores to make a "killing" off of desperate costume shoppers. Are you seriously going to pay $100 or more for a halloween outfit from a store that you will only wear once for a few hours? Of course not-keep your costs down to $30 or less using these simple, cheap halloween costume ideas.

Ballerina

All you need is a tutu and a pair of slippers to pull off a ballerina outfit for Halloween ladies. You probably have a pair of black leggings and a black tank top or snap bottom tank in your drawer, no? Don't forget to pull your hair back into a bun. This is also a daring and hilarious cheap Halloween costume idea for a man, especially if he is on the chubby side!

Bug

There is no limit to what your costume can be if you want to be a bug. You can do anything from a butterfly to a bee to a Halloween bug (orange and black) to a lady bug. Again, all you need is a black outfit as your base for this Halloween costume idea-leggings and tank top or jeans and a black t-shirt. Then comes the fun part-add accents. You can purchase bug wings for cheap and tie them to the back of your shirt. Wear a belt and shoes that match the bright color of your bug (such as red, orange, or yellow).

For women, it's especially exciting because you can accessorize with earrings, headbands, necklaces, and bracelets. Face paint is also a fun and simple way to complete this cheap halloween costume idea. You can easily get all of your accessories for as little as $20 - browse through Michaels or a similar fabric store for ideas.

Oscar (Trash Can)

All you have to spend is about $10-$30 to go to your Halloween outing as Oscar from Sesame Street. Simply cut out the bottom of a plastic trash can (check your home discount stores for a cheap one) and run a strap from one handle to the other to rest around the back of your neck. Cut out two large holes in the bottom for your legs with a heavy duty knife or power saw. Put on a pair of green "furry" paws (a pair of furry wool mittens will work) or green hobo gloves (no fingers). Wear a furry green hat. Paint your face green and don't forget to have a grumpy demeanor the whole night when you choose this cheap Halloween costume idea.
