Cheap Homemade Halloween Costume; Evergreen Pine Tree

A Great, Aromatic Halloween Costume for the Outdoors

David Farrell
An unusual homemade Halloween costume you can make this year is dressing up as an evergreen tree. I remember doing it one Halloween when I couldn't think of anything else to dress as. This Halloween costume is unique, simple, and most importantly, free. This version of the Evergreen pine tree Halloween costume is best suited for the outdoors.

For this Halloween Costume, you will need:

Green sweatshirt or T-shirt
Duct tape
Pine or evergreen branches
Two old belts
Black, gray, or brown pants (or old pants)
Bark or other matter (optional)
Black or brown footwear

Evergreen or Pine Tree Halloween Costume, underlying costume clothing: Wear a green sweatshirt or jacket and a green hat. A green T-shirt worn on top of a dark long sleeved top also works.

Evergreen pine tree Halloween Costume; branches and tree: Procure a large pine branch, about 3-4 feet tall, as well as numerous pine twigs. Select a variety of pine that has a softer needle, with needles not sharp enough to poke through the clothing. Branches should be relatively free of tar. Cut twigs that are between 1-2 feet long and strip the needles from the first two inches if necessary. Tape the twigs to a belt with the twigs pointing downwards. Tape over the cut part of the twig to prevent tar from oozing onto your clothing. Fasten the belt around your waist. This belt should have the heavier, longer twigs on it.

Take the second belt and tape the remaining twigs to it. Now take the longer branch and tuck it under the first belt. Take the second bent and wrap it around your chest, using it to secure in place the large branch that will stick up past your head like a main tree leader. It helps to have someone assist you fastening the belts.

Evergreen or Pine Tree Halloween Costume, the stem and roots of the pine tree: Wear a pair of black, gray, or brown pants. Also wear black or brown sneakers or boots. It is not necessary to elaborate on this part of the Halloween costume unless you seek to win a Halloween costume contest. In which case, select an old pair of pants that you plan to not wear again and glue pieces of bark or other suitable material to the pants legs. Do not glue to the insides of the pants legs, as friction will rub the glued pieces off. Allow glue to dry.

You now have a pine or evergreen tree Halloween Costume. Please note, this Halloween costume is not suited for car rides or rambunctious activities and is best put on at the party site. Pieces may break off the costume; this costume is best suited for outdoors.
