Cheap Lunch Restaurants in Waikiki, Hawaii

Jack Oceano
At around noon, when the Hawaiian sun is at its hottest, many of those swimming in the Pacific or sunning on the brilliant white sands of Waikiki Beach head back into the concrete jungle for a bit of lunch. Of course, Hawaiian vacations don't come cheap, and each meal can seem like a threat to a vacationer's financial security. But that doesn't have to be the case; at least not for lunch. Here some cheap lunch restaurants in Waikiki, Hawaii.

Perhaps the best cheap lunch restaurant in Waikiki is Cheeseburger in Paradise. Not to be confused with Jimmy Buffet's chain of restaurants, Cheeseburger in Paradise is a terrific hamburger joint right on Kalakaua Avenue, across from Waikiki Beach. Their cheeseburgers are thick and juicy, with a delicious special sauce, and don't cost an arm and a leg. The magnificently seasoned fries are also outstanding at Cheeseburger in Paradise, but they do cost extra (about four bucks). A side order offers plenty of them, so you may want to get one order of fries for the entire table. Nothing like sharing to help balance the family budget. Of course, this cheap lunch restaurant can quickly seem high-priced if you overindulge with their delicious tropical drinks. But if you can manage to keep your lunch meal alcohol-free, you can expect to pay a mere twenty bucks plus tip for two people.

Another cheap lunch restaurant on Kalakaua Avenue is Wolfgang Puck Express at the Aston Waikiki Beach Plaza. You can enjoy a personal pizza or a fresh, delicious salad for a very reasonable price. The one complaint I have is that Wolfgang Puck Express isn't very fast, but then again, you are in Hawaii, on island time, where patience truly is a virtue. Wolfgang Puck Express offers some pretty terrific tables outside that offer an outstanding view of Waikiki Beach.

If a burger is indeed what you want, but you don't have time for a table at Cheeseburger in Paradise, you can head over to Teddy's Bigger Burgers for a cheap, delicious lunch meal. Located at 134 Kapahulu Avenue, Teddy's Bigger Burgers looks like your typical fast food restaurant from the outside. But it is anything but. The burgers are large and cooked properly, the fries are crisp and delicious, the milkshakes are thick and sweet. The only way Teddy's Bigger Burgers does resemble a fast food joint is in the price. You can enjoy a full, delicious lunch for under ten bucks per person.

Aloha, and enjoy these cheap lunch restaurants in Waikiki, Hawaii.

I wish I had the time to go there. Sounds great and now I am getting hungry, too.
