It's okay to be honest, money is tight this year and it seems to be getting harder and harder to have fun activities without breaking the bank. We all want to have fun, especially on holidays that before the economic crash allowed us to show out. You can still have the same Memorial day fun you always have, and then some with these easy tips on how to do memorial day on a budget.

Memorial Day often is a warm and sunny day and bar-b-q is usually on the menu. When you are on a budget a great choice is to go for a day at your local park. Invite your friends and make a party of it, or just go with your family. It is free to use the bar-b-q pits and any uncovered tables are free on a first come first served basis. Memorial Day is a great time to catch super market sales, you can get steaks, chicken, hot dogs or hamburgers on sale as well as sodas. Gather some sporty games from the garage and you've got a great day of fun, sun and BBQ. Water balloons and water guns are a great choice for entertaining young ones too. You can basically have Memorial Day celebration at the park for under $100.

The lake is always a fun choice for Memorial Day especially if you're on a budget. My family likes to go to Lake Perris and have a pic-nic. Pack up some sandwiches, chips, sodas, beer and sweet treats and be on your way. Don't go out and spend a fortune either, most of the things you need to enjoy a picnic you already have at home. Get some blankets and maybe a boom box and you can make a great day of it.

I live in California, and the beach is probably the most popular place to be for Memorial Day. If you live near a beach take advantage of it. Beach parking is about $7 to $10 to park all day. Bring items to BBQ and snack on. The beach offers so many activities like volleyball rentals, bike rentals, skate rentals, and water toys. The beach is one of the most inexpensive ways to celebrate Memorial Day.

Many cities have local Memorial Day parades and functions that last all day. There may be a small parking fee but admission is usually free. They may have shows and attractions, face painting for kids, and of course a walking parade. If you have children this may be the perfect event to find and attend. Check your local city guide for listings on where a parade will be in your town.
