Cheap RC Cars: Starting an RC Driving Career

JB Robbins
If you're looking to purchase remote control cars, there's some good news for you. Becoming an RC car hobbyist is more affordable than every before. Back when the hobby took off in the 1970s, even the most basic remote control race cars cost thousands of dollars and they were much slower and much more cumbersome than an average-quality radio control car is today. Furthermore, these cars were a lot more likely to fail than today's vehicles and-- whether they were electric RC cars or nitro RC cars-they required quite a bit more maintenance.

Cheap RC Cars

Now a variety of cheap RC cars are available to buy; and cheap does not mean low-quality. If you're just looking to entertain yourself or your child, consider getting RC car toys-- the best of which are available for a little over $100. At these prices you can get all-terrain vehicles like Tyco's Terrain Twister remote control car, which will absorb you in adventures on the track, off-road and even on water. If you're looking for hobby-grade RC vehicles that you can race, then you'll find a lot of remote control car kits that are suitable for racing for around $120. Many of these kits are ready-to-run. This means that the cars are pre-assembled and ready to race right out of the box.

RC Car Racing

If you're looking to delve deeply into racing RC cars-- if you want to get fast electric RC cars or impressive nitro remote control cars that can exceed 50 miles per hour-then you're also in luck. Cheap RC cars can be winning RC cars. You needn't spend more than $400-- unless you genuinely want to-- in order to get an RC vehicle that will be competitive in the vast majority of races. Ready-to-run vehicles will often go just as fast as those that were assembled by their owners from their respective RC cars parts and accessories.

Building an Affordable RC Car Racing Team

If you want to save money while enjoying your new RC car hobby at an elite level, then you can get just one or two cheap RC cars that can compete at races-- and then focus on your driving skill. It's not how much money you put into your hobby that matters most in terms of results; rather, it's the time, focus, and devotion you put into becoming the best possible driver, exercising restraint when you're tempted to make impulsive moves, taking good care of your RC vehicle at all times, and learning as much as you can about how remote control cars work.
