Joe's Coffee Shop - 6134 Geary Boulevard - Stepping into Joe's is like stepping back in time. The décor of this greasy spoon hails back to the 70's with smoked mirrors and wood paneling. The dining room is small and can't handle large crowds but it's a perfect breakfast spot for couples vacationing on a budget. At Joe's Coffee Shop you'll find an order of eggs, hash browns and toast will cost you $4.
Katz Bagels - 606 Mission Street - The variety of bagels offered at Katz is tremendous given their prices. For only $3.50 you can get a toasted bagel with sausage, eggs and cheese. If you prefer your bagel plain with a little spread you won't be disappointed with the selection. For $3.00 you can choose your bagel and spread. This is one of the best breakfast bargains in the city.
The Toaster Oven - 145 2nd St - This little dive is similar to Sub-Way. At the Toaster Oven you can build your own breakfast sandwich for $2.79 with a wide variety of filling choices.
Howard's Café - 1309 9th Avenue - Howard's serves breakfast like mom used to make. This is a no frills eatery that keeps the food and the service simple. The clientele consists of regulars but the environment is warm and welcoming to newcomers. Amongst the burgers and beer on Howard's menu you'll find a $4.25 breakfast special or a fried egg sandwich served on your choice of dark russian rye, whole wheat, sour french, or french roll for $3.75.
Golden Gate Meat Co. - 1 Ferry Building #13 - The Golden Gate Meat Company is a family owned and operated business located inside San Francisco's Ferry Building. Don't let the city's government building fool you into thinking its all business. Inside you'll find that the Golden Gate Meat Co. offers a fried egg, bacon and cheese breakfast sandwich served on a Kaiser roll for $5.
Tartine Bakery - 600 Guerrero St - This is a great little bakery that fills up with patrons extremely fast. The wait in line is well worth it though for a taste of one of their delectable pastries. Don't let the line outside intimidate you, the service is just as quick. At Tartine's you'll find buttermilk scones and currents for $2.50 or a brandy and almonds croissant for $3.75.
Lee's Deli - 235 Montgomery St - You'll find several Lee's Delis throughout the city of of San Francisco but for the sake of this article we'll focus on the one on Montgomery St. Lee's is a friendly deli with plenty of seating, cheap prices and great food. A scrambled egg breakfast sandwich served on bagel, bread or English muffin with bacon will run you a grand total of $2.75.
When you're traveling, eating out on a budget shouldn't cause stress and these establishments are designed to keep your money in the bank. Have a great breakfast and enjoy the city of San Francisco.
