Cheap Shoe Review: Payless Shoes American Eagle Balboa Canvas Oxford Sneakers for Men
A Comfortable, Attractive, Shoe at an Affordable Price
At some point, a man's sneakers should not automatically be white. White cross trainers simply get boring. You'll also want to wear some kind of casual shoe with a business casual wardrobe. That's where a pair of Payless American Eagle Balboa Canvas Oxford sneakers can be useful.
When it's a casual day, but most of your pants are khaki chinos, it falls upon your shoes to be casual. I find that a pair of brown Payless American Eagle Balboa Canvas Oxford sneakers fits casual day perfectly. The shoes come in eight colors of canvas: brown, navy, green, brown plaid, grey, red, brown/tan, and navy/black. According to the Payless website, the shoes come in sizes 6.5 regular through 13 regular. The brown canvas sneakers have brown laces and a khaki tint to the rubber border of the sole. There are no side emblems or design swirls. For, tennis shoes or sneakers, the look of the Balboa Canvas Oxford sneakers is quite understated. However, different colors or different accessories could transform these shoes into something that easily complements a younger, edgier, skate boarder, music store, club-goer look.
The Payless American Eagle Balboa Canvas Oxford sneakers are a surprisingly comfortable shoe to wear all day. For office work, they were just fine. When I did walk about, I found that the shoes offered a flatter stance with more of connection to the floor. More importantly, these shoes offered better padding than expected. They were actually comfortable for walking around during the workday. However, these shoes do not have the same arch support as a pair of running shoes. I would not recommend these shoes for actual athletic endeavors.
The quality of Payless Shoes seems to be much improved over the past few years. My main concern about these shoes is the construction of the sole. The bottom of these shoes seem to be a combination of rubber and a pressed paper or cardboard product. Since it can be very rainy where I live, it will be interesting to see how these shoes hold up over the long haul. It should also be noted that these shoes are from Payless Shoes and are not in any way a product of American Eagle Outfitters. There is even a disclaimer on the box to that effect.
In general, I plan for the Payless American Eagle Oxford to be a fair weather casual shoe. For a sale price of only $19.99, the should be a good shoe for that mission. Overall, I like the style, comfort, and price of these shoes.
