Cheap Spaghetti Sauce: Traditional Spaghetti Sauce by Del Monte

This Sauce was Pretty Good for Being so Cheap

Normally I don't approach getting groceries by getting what is ever cheapest but in the case of spaghetti sauce I have been. For a while I was happily trying out different organic tomato and pasta sauces. However you'll likely spend three dollars for a jar of organic spaghetti sauce and I couldn't afford to keep doing this. Instead I started getting some spaghetti sauce that was one third of the price and contained one third more spaghetti sauce. The sauce I am talking about is Del Monte Traditional Spaghetti Sauce and other sauces from that company. A can containing about three cups of spaghetti sauce was only ninety-two cents.

I have no idea what ingredients make a spaghetti sauce labeled as traditional but I thought I would compare the ingredients of two spaghetti sauces that I had tried that were labeled as traditional. One of these sauces of course was the Traditional Spaghetti Sauce by Del Monte and the other was Newman's Own Organic Traditional Herb Pasta Sauce. The ingredients in the Del Monte sauce are tomato puree, corn syrup, salt, soybean oil, dehydrated onions, onion powder, tomato concentrate, carrot fiber, citric acid, spices and garlic powder. The only similarity that I could see from the two was they contained tomato paste, oil, salt, onions, garlic, various spices and citric acid. I don't know if this is what makes them traditional or not, I do know that I thought that ingredients were not all that bad. I have to admit though that I am not all that fond of corn syrup in spaghetti sauce, even though it doesn't affect the taste.

The taste of the Traditional Spaghetti Sauce by Del Monte was pretty standard for an inexpensive spaghetti sauce. It was not overwhelmingly watery surprisingly considering that it was so cheap but I must say that it could have used a bit more spices to really be great. I was happy to be eating it though, considering that it was so cheap. Seeing that it was so cheap I wondered what the nutrition facts looked like. When it comes to cheap spaghetti sauce I don't expect a whole lot of nutrition but I am still interested to see what the nutrition facts of the cheap spaghetti sauce look like. In the case of the Traditional Spaghetti Sauce by Del Monte there is seventy calories with ten calories from fat, five hundred and ninety milligrams of sodium, fourteen grams of carbohydrates, three grams of fiber, ten grams of sugars and two grams of protein in every half of a cup of sauce. The nutrition facts also mention that vitamin A is listed with ten percent, vitamin C with fifteen percent, calcium with four percent and iron with eight percent. All in all these nutrition facts were not horrible.

Overall the taste, nutrition facts and ingredients of the Traditional Spaghetti Sauce by Del Monte are alright. I am not thrilled about eating non-organic spaghetti sauce, but I am happy to have found a good tasting sauce that is very cheap. I will continue to get this spaghetti sauce and other sauces, like Garlic & Herb and Garlic & Onion from the Del Monte brand for their price, although I do look forward to getting organic spaghetti sauces again. I would recommend for anyone to try out this pasta sauce. At only ninety-two cents you really have nothing to lose. Even if you were to hate the sauce, which I doubt that you would, you'll only be out a dollar. I am glad that I noticed these very cheap spaghetti sauces and I believe that I will be getting them again and again for a very long time.
