Cheap Vacation Ideas

Timmy Scott
You work hard all year. You want to get away and recharge your batteries. Expenses in travel are now too high to do what you want. You have to alter your plans. Here are some ideas for a cheap vacation.

Keep an eye on your local papers. With travel dropping off, there are many hotels, amusement parks, national parks, and other vacation businesses that are offering reduced rates. Many times you might pick up a bargain and create a cheap vacation for you and your family. This is especially true in your hometown or city. In an attempt to attract customers, prices are reduced and newspapers will have coupons. You can find some good vacation deals this way. Many times you can find many last minute travel deals in a paper. You can also check with your local travel agent. Many times deals can come up rather quickly. There are places that are desperate for tourists and eventually offer some good deals.

Think about trading homes for a cheap vacation. The money that you would spend on a hotel or motel could go for gas if you have another place to stay. If you have friends or relatives near the place you want to vacation, see if they would trade homes with you.

Set an austerity budget and stick to it. If you travel a great distance, think about eating in your room instead of going to a restaurant. Cut back on places you would go where admission is charged. Look for freebies like museums and national landmarks.

Checkout a city or State guidebook for ideas. Many times this books will have coupons that will help with a cheap vacation. Structure these coupons together in your vacation package. Many times a vacation package is already in place.

Work on your vacation. Many parks count on help from others to keep their budgets low. Write or call ahead and see if you can trade off work for a room and board. Many times you can do this, although it is tougher to do with an entire family.

Vacation in your hometown. No rooms needed, not much gas is necessary, walking or biking tours are in abundance. Eat your meals at home instead of in restaurants. Talk to your friends to see where they would take their friends from the outside. You may find new places to checkout right in your own hometown or city. You can't find a cheaper vacation than that.

Be unreachable. Many individuals take a vacation to get away from the riffraff of everyday life. Don't check your emails, stay off the phone, don't attend your child's sports events. Just try to disappear in your own town. This can be a fun challenge alone for a cheap vacation.

Do a movie or book vacation. One way to have a cheap vacation is to just get a book that you have wanted to read and read it through cover to cover. A movie vacation is simple to do. Borrow or rent about a dozen that you have never seen. Set up a time schedule for viewing these. Make sure the cellphone is turned off. Park your car in the garage and you are set.

Don't let the high price of fuel keep you from relaxing with your family. Think outside the box and improvise on your vacation plans. You can set up a cheap vacation with proper planning.

One other thing that you might consider is putting your vacation of travel off for another year. Take this years savings and combine it with next years budget for a trip. You can place this years amount in a an account to save for next year. Then when next year comes, you will have enough to do what you have always wanted to do.
