Use Inexpensive Valentine's Decorations to Create a Romantic Mood

Treat your special someone to a Valentine's Day they'll never forget, by decorating your be*droom. This can be done by using cheap decorations to create a romantic atmosphere. Inexpensive Valentine's decorations are easy to find. The hard part is knowing which low-cost novelties to purchase, that will create the desired mood.

Choose one of the following colors as your main Valentine's decoration color: red, burgundy or pink. Complement these with white, ivory or black. This will keep your palette exciting, yet elegant.

Cheap Valentine's Bedroom Decorations: Candles & Fake Votives

Candlelight is essential to creating the right mood and has a bonus of being cheap. Decorate your bedroom this Valentine's Day with inexpensive white or ivory candles from a dollar an item or discount store. Set the candles near your other decorations, all around the bedroom. Don't forget to highlight the bed. This will let the light flicker seductively and create an intimate atmosphere.

If you're worried about distractions or fire hazards, use flameless candles or votives. They are inexpensive and flicker just like the real thing. Battery operated votives are sold at dollar stores, a dollar for a pack of two. Flameless candles can be found for $1 to $15, depending on size and quantity, at Walmart.

Cheap Valentine's Bedroom Decorations: Silk Sheets

Purchase inexpensive silk or sateen sheets, to decorate the bed. The bed is typically the focus of a bedroom, so it should receive plenty of attention while you're decorating for Valentine's Day. Focus on the sheets, instead of the comforter, because the bedclothes should be turned down. This will make the bed seem welcoming, as will the sheen of the material. Amazon has king size satin silk sheets for $19.99.

Cheap Valentine's Bedroom Decoration: Faux Fur

Faux fur is is an excellent inexpensive Valentine's decoration, as it creates nice texture and depth. Use it as a rug to snuggle up on or a luxurious bedding accent. Place casually at the foot of your bed or cut up and attach to the face of pillows. It can be sewed on or fastened with safety pins. Dollar General stores carry faux fur throws, retailing $5-$20, depending on size.

Cheap Valentine's Bedroom Decoration: Bed Canopy or Curtains

Creating a temporary bed canopy or curtains can be fairly inexpensive. Purchase lightweight sheer curtains at a thrift store, around $1-$5 a panel. Make sure you wash the curtains before decorating. Another option is to purchase a tulle bolt. These can be found at Gifts International for around $12 for a 54 inch wide, 40 yard long bolt.

To create the bed curtains, attach four small sticky wall hooks to the ceiling, at each point of your bed. To create the bed curtains, run fishing line through your sheers. Tie one end of the line to a hook and the the other end of the line to another hook. Use thread, fabric glue or safety pins to attach tulle to the fishing line. Arrange the curtains which ever way looks best in your bedroom.

To make a canopy, run fishing wire to each hook, creating a rectangle. Spread your sheers so the fishing line is holding them up. Don't worry if you don't have enough fabric to cover the entire top. Make sure you have fabric flush with the Tuck the ends under to created a uniform edge.

Cheap Valentine's Bedroom Decorations: Fake Roses

It's not very wise to give fake roses for Valentine's Day, but they make for lovely inexpensive decorations. Arrange them in vases, around candles, on the bed frame and throughout the space. They will create the optimal romantic vibe and will look real in the candlelight. Dollar an item stores sell bunches of roses that are acceptable to use, but you can also order nice ones online. Ebay has 72 open burgundy (and other colors) roses for $24.95, plus shipping. These bunches even have fake babies breath in them.

Another item to incorporate into your inexpensive Valentine's decorating makeover is fake rose petals. Make romantic pathways in the room or have them strewn about the floor. Use the petals on the bed in a heart design or to spell out the word "love". Rose petals can be found at the Dollar Tree, for a dollar a box.
