Cheap Ways to Cleanse Natural Black Hair

More companies are being created to target women of color with natural hair. They are charging outrageous prices like $15 for four ounces of product. Four ounces does not go far with kinky hair especially if it is thick like mines. I spend around $6 on hair supplies monthly. I do not deprave my hair, but I have found cheap alternatives. A clean scalp is important for hair growth.

Cheap conditioners like VO5 or Suave that only cost around a dollar or less are great for cleaning your scalp instead of shampoo. Apply the product, massage, let it sit for a few minutes and rinse.

To cleanse my scalp and remove dandruff I use a tablespoon of apple cider vinegar mixed in with a cup of water. This is referred to as an "acv rinse." I spray this on my scalp and rinse. Apple cider vinegar removes product build up. If you do not have apple cider vinegar, then regular vinegar will do the same thing. I would not suggest doing this rinse daily or weekly because apple cider vinegar is an acid, and overuse may cause negative effects such as breakage.

If you want to go a cheaper route of cleansing your scalp is by making a paste of baking soda and water and scrubbing your scalp with it. This will make your hair extremely kinky when you rinse it out. Remember to rinse your hair out for awhile.

If you want to go an even cheaper route of cleansing your scalp I suggest plain water. Rinse your scalp for a long time can remove build up. While in the shower I rinsed my scalp for around ten minutes. This is my favorite method of scalp cleansing. I use coconut oil as a hair moisturizer, and after my shower rinse my scalp would feel clean but the first inch of my roots would have slight oil left on it. The hair would not shrink very much due to the oil. Not only did I spend less time detangling, but I also did not have to use as much leave in conditioner since the hair already had a little oil on it.
