Lights:
A front porch during Christmastime would not be complete without the use of Christmas lights. It's an especially fun way to get into the Christmas spirit and put a smile on your face as you come home to (timed) lights in your window. They are beautiful, easy to use, have a variety of uses, and best of all, do not have to cost a pretty penny! Since Christmas lights have been in use for decades now, there is a huge variety of styles, colors and functions. There is also a variety of budgets, which is ideal for the frugal shopper. You can buy a string of lights for as low at $3.99 at places like Wal-mart or for only $1 at DollarTree. No matter your budget, is it very possible to find Christmas lights for cheap. I also highly suggest buying them in the after-Christmas sale at sometimes 75% off and use them annually.
Door Decoration:
The outside of your front door serves as the perfect place to hang something amazing on your front porch. When your guests arrive to your front door, they will come face to face with whatever creation to decide to display. It also serves as a welcome reminder for yourself to enjoy the Christmas spirit as you unlock or lock your door daily. Some ideas that are not very expensive and can be found for around $1-$3 are:
Long plastic doorway "poster" of Santa, or Reindeer, or anything Christmas-y.
Christmas wreath with holly berries.
Big red stocking with candy canes sticking out and the (handwritten) last name of your family on it.
Snow!
Even if you do not come from a town that has snow during the Winter Season, you can fake that chilly winter feel by adding faux snow! This can be done in a variety of ways. The kids will most enjoy the way of using a snow-spray can on the windows. You can choose to "frost" the outer part, like a frame, and gradually bring the white in the center. Or you can write words like Merry Christmas on the big front porch window. Be sure you get the spray can that is specifically to imitate the look of snow on windows. Do not use a regular spray can as this will NOT come off your windows. If you absolutely cannot find it, some people will use the sponge paint used for car windows that looks like white shoe polish. This will wash off with soap and water.
