The first thing you think of when you think of Sleeping Beauty is her dress. When you are making a Sleeping Beauty costume you have two choices of dress colors, pink or blue. The easiest way of getting a dress for a sleeping beauty costume, is to reconstruct one that you buy. If you already have an old prom dress, or other fancy dress its perfect. If you don't have a dress already you will need to find one. A thrift store is the perfect place to look for a dress. You should look in the fancy dress section. You can often buy a dress for less then $10. All you have to do is find one that fits, if it is the wrong color you can dye it pink or blue. Once you have your dress, you need to try it on. If the dress is not full and fluffy enough you can sew layers of material to the inside to make it fuller, or you can buy a petticoat. You will also need shoes. You can look for heels at the thrift store, and you can also dye them to match the dress.
The accessories are a very important factor when you are making a sleeping beauty costume. You will need gloves, jewelry, a crown. and possibly a wig. You will be able to find these by looking at just a few stores. You will just have to make a few alterations and they will work perfectly for your sleeping beauty costume.
You can look for gloves and jewelry while you are at the thrift store getting your dress. Often at thrift stores you can find costume jewelry for really good prices. You should get a necklace, and earrings. You want large, pretty pieces that will make you look like a princess. You might be able to find gloves at the thrift store, but if you can't bridal stores are the perfect place to look. Bridal stores always have a large selection of gloves, and they are usually not too expensive. You will want white gloves that go to your elbows.
A crown is also an important part of your Sleeping Beauty costume. Many stores Will have play crowns and they will work perfectly if the costume you are making is for a young girl. If you are making a costume for an adult or teen it will be a little harder to find a crown. Bridal shops will often have crowns, but sometimes they can be expensive so you will have to check and see. If you can't find a crown to buy you might have to make one from scratch. All you have to do to make one is cut a crown shape of of cardboard, and attach it to a headband.
Sleeping Beauty costumes wouldn't be complete without her long blond hair. If you already have blond hair, all you have to do is curl it with a large barrel curling iron, or large rollers. Then leave it down and long with the crown on top. If you don't have blond hair you will need a wig. Party stores usually have the best prices on costume wigs. You will usually have a large selection and you will be able to find the perfect one.
Making a Sleeping Beauty costume can be easy. Remember that just because you can't sew doesn't mean that you can't make your own costume. Making your own Sleeping Beauty costume can be a lot of fun and save you tons of money.
