Cheap Ways to Spoil Your Pet

It's Possible to Pamper Your Pet Without Spending Major Cash

Tamara McRill
Pets owners with big hearts and tiny budgets still have cheap options for spoiling their pets. Pampering a pet for little (or no) money can be done by adding a pleasurable step to their daily experiences. Taking measures to enhance your pet's comfort can also be done inexpensively.

Spoil Pets with Cheap Cool Downs

Ice Water

Compassionate pet owners always leave a fresh water supply for their animals. Spoil your pet on hot days by putting a couple cubes of ice in their water. The coolness is especially pampering after play time. My dogs enjoy crunching the cubes up, then licking up the pieces.

Cool Down Collars

Pampered pets can be especially susceptible to overheating when outdoors, due to the controlled environments they spend most of their day in. A cheap cool down collar will regulate your pets temperature, while they are training or playing outdoors. Lion Country Supply carries one for dogs, that retails for $2.99.

If you don't want to purchase a cool down collar, make a free homemade version. Saturate a washcloth or towel (depending on pet size) with cold water. Twist the cloth until it resembles a rope. Arrange the cold cloth around your pets neck. Be sure to supervise your pet, to prevent accidental choking or hanging.

Inexpensive Ways to Feed Your Pet Like a King

Heated Food

One cheap way to pamper your pet is to heat their canned food. Just like human food, heated pet food gives off enticing aromas and enhances the foods flavor.

Homemade Gourmet Treats

Store purchased gourmet pet treats can be expensive, at more than $10 for six treats. Bypass most of the expense by coating your pet's normal treats with palatable flavors. Heated and thinned yogurt or carob offer many tasty and creative decorating opportunities. Food coloring can be added to yogurt to create colored icings. Carob looks like melted dark chocolate and will make decadent looking treats for your pet.

Low-Cost Pampered Pet Bedding

Soft Beds

The main component for luxury pet bedding is softness. Discount stores offer cheap beds your pet would love to snuggle in. Prices range from $10 to $20, depending on the size of your pet. An extra blanket or bedding will also go a long way towards making your pet more comfortable.

Pet Pillows

There are a variety of pet pillows on the market, but an inexpensive bed or couch pillow will satisfy your pet's needs. Some pets like to curl up on cushions situated on their owners laps. My dogs prefer to use them the traditional way - by laying their heads on the pillow. Pillows for your spoiled pets can be cheaply purchased at discount and dollar stores, for $5 to $10.

Free Ambiance for the Spoiled Pet

Open Windows

Even pampered indoor pets appreciate fresh air. One free way to accommodate your pet is to simply open a window for them to sit by. Make sure there is a sturdy screen in place, so they can't get out.

Controlled Lighting

Just like their owners, pets often have lighting they are most happy in. This is typically natural sunlight or shade. Experiment to see which light your pet seems most content with. Spoiling them this way could be as simple as opening or closing the blinds.

Pampered Pets Have (Cheap) Wardrobes

Clothes

Pampered pets often enjoy their own wardrobes, just like their owners. Keep your pet extra spoiled, with their own pair of pajamas. This inexpensive pet treat can be found at Walmart stores, for under $10.

Booties

If you are worried about your pet's feet touching the frigid snow, spoil them with a cheap pair of snow booties. JBPet.com carries a set of four fleece dog booties, for under $5.

Great ideas! I think mine are extremely spoiled. Sometimes they think they're people; sometimes they seem to think I'm another cat!

Haa, haa, lots of fun here! We got our dogs leather booties for the rain and laugh our heads off when they start their rain dances trying to shake them off as they tip-toe flip around in them!
