Decorating for a wedding reception on a fixed budget is definitely doable. The trick is doing your shopping and price comparing at various stores. You'll also want to be open-minded on different decoration pieces that can make your wedding reception special. The main stores you'll want to look at first for inexpensive ideas are: Oriental Trading, Wal-Mart, and the DollarTree.

Party Favors:

You're probably wondering how and where it is possible to purchase party favors in bulk amounts for a good price. Well, Oriental Trading is the perfect place to look. For example a dozen of heart wedding bubbles costs $4.99. You can also get a dozen of floating heart candles for the same price, available in various colors.

They have literally thousands of different party favors available at Oriental Trading. Request a catalog sent to your home if you prefer to order via mail rather than online. You can also look at the many decoration items for sale through them as well. You will find everything you need to fit a variety of fun themes.

Centerpieces:

Oriental Trading also has many items that can be used as decoration for a budgeted price. However, you can also buy items at the store for a fraction of the price of luxury wedding items as well. Think about your theme and tie the centerpiece around that. Do you like candles? Place a fishbowl with water in the center of each table and place a floating flower candle inside to be lit during dinner. The fishbowls cost under a dollar each and the candles can be found for around $5 for a dozen.

Is your theme tropical? Using a shallow bowl, throw in some fresh hibiscus flowers to float inside. You can then place large seashells around the bowl for a tropical twist. In order to achieve this look at a discount, buy a few bouquets at Wal-Mart of hibiscus flowers. Flowers there cost $5-$7/bouquet which can save you a lot of money. A large bag of seashells also found at Wal-Mart are also only $10 and can probably be enough to cover 12 tables. Bowls of various shapes, sizes and colors can be found at DollarTree for a mere $1/piece.

Other Decorations:

Streamers are inexpensive but can look tacky if used inappropriately. If you choose to use them, do so. Just don't go overboard. A roll of streamers will cost you $3 in stores, or only $1 at DollarTree. Go for a more elegant look and buy streamers that are metallic in nature, such as silver or ivory. They give the look of expensive at almost the same price as regular streamers.
