Sticking to a middle-of-the-road rate, I chose a king, non-smoking room with a view of the marina across the street. The Passport Inn is just off the main road, Texas Avenue - Hwy 146 and is a few miles away from Galveston. This hotel is also located at the entrance to the Kemah Boardwalk area which is a great place to spend a few days. Kemah is my favorite place to go when in Texas and I have decided to stay at each hotel in the Kemah Boardwalk area. With this being my first I have to say it will be hard to stay somewhere else! It seems rates only go up as you travel closer to the waters edge and amenities stay pretty much the same, so... why pay more when this location has convenience, cleanliness, and spacious rooms.
The staff at The Passport is friendly and knowledgeable of all surrounding entertainments such as NASA, Galveston, the Schlitterbahn Indoor/Outdoor Water-park, and of course the Boardwalk. The Boardwalk area is within walking distance and is filled with restaurants such as Landry's Seafood, Joe's Crab Shack, and Babin's Seafood, just to name a few. There are quaint shops, as well as a train ride touring the Boardwalk area; all fun for every age! Let's not forget the amusement area with a Ferris-wheel, kiddy rides and skill games with prizes (we won a stuffed shark!). There is an area on the Boardwalk where one can feed the fish, plus there is an Aquarium which is home to many sea creatures. There is nothing more exciting than petting the Stingrays as they swim around in their viewing tank!
Snacks and drinks are available all around the Boardwalk, but be sure to stop by the open area which provides live music in the evenings. (It's easy to find, just follow the crowd!) There is an area with "dancing water" shooting up sporadically that kids love to play in' while the music fills the air. This is a great place to sit and have a beverage or snack and unwind after a day of fun at Kemah.
As your day comes to a close, a stroll back to the Passport Inn is in order. The rooms are welcoming and the fresh, comfy bedding makes for a good nights sleep. The Passport provides a good continental breakfast with assorted pastries, oatmeal, grits, and hot coffee. What more could you want?
Next time you are heading to the Texas Gulf Coast plan to stay at The Passport Inn and Suites. I am sure you won't be disappointed.
