FeatherFest 2010 Offers a New Line of Workshops, Field Trips, & Events Called "Photo Fest"
The panel of birders and birding specialists include: Keena Acock, Dr. Stanley (Skip) Almoney, Dr. Mike Austin, Jeff Bouton, Winnie Burkett, Damien Carey, Ted Eubanks, Tony Frank, Don Freiday, Nancy Greig, Steve Gross, Maggie Honig, Robert Honig, Kevin T. Karlson, Karla Klay, Dr. Susan Knock, Susan Lewis, Richard Mayfield, Dr. Alice Anne O'Donell, Jim O'Donell, Glenn Olsen, Dr. Richard Peake, Katherine Pollock, George Regmund, Jim Stevenson, Mort Voller, Patrick Walther, Adam Wood, and Gay York.
Every year FeatherFest offers dozens of field trips and workshops at varying levels from the amateur birder to the season and experienced birder. There are even some field trips and workshops open to families with children, these events will specify that children can attend with their parents. This year FeatherFest has expanded the workshops and field trips offered by adding a new section of 14 "Photo Fest" FeatherFest workshops and field trips that will be lead by four award winning photographers.
The 2010 FeatherFest will kick off with a free Welcome to FeatherFest Social and evening workshop titled "Did Anyone Bring a Camera?" on April 8, 2010. The social will be at 5:45 to 7:00pm on April 8, 2010 at the Butterowe building located at 2313 Harborside Drive which is across the street from the Old Galveston Square building, in downtown Galveston. And the workshop will follow the social immediately from 7:00 until 7:45pm across the street on the second floor of the Old Galveston Square building, 2221 The Strand.
The birders are a friendly and helpful group of people. If you have never went birding before, don't be shy, you are still welcome to come to the FeatherFest socials, workshops, field trips, and events. There is a little bit of something for everyone, from children to retirees, and all those in between. There will also be free live bird of prey shows during the FeatherFest events located at 23rd street and the Strand in the square outside that people of all ages, especially children, will enjoy. You will have the opportunity to see many of the 200+ bird species that are found on Galveston Island through the 2010 8th Annual Glaveston FeatherFest Birding Festival workshops, field trips, events, and photography.
Check out the listing of "Photo Fest" events, workshops, and field trips which are not just about birds but also include other offerings such as Basic Nature Photography, Galveston at Night - Painting with Light (photographing old buildings with light special effects), Panoramic Photography, Prepare and Process Photos for the Web, and Simple Tips for Better Images. And check out the workshops and field trips which have offerings on butterflies, moths, dragonflies, damselflies, bird and port history, bay walks, beach walks, turtle research station tours, as well as the one on birds. All the workshops and field trips are not just lecture or walking either, there are events by kayak and boat too.
