The International Test Rose Garden boasts having over 7,000 rose plants with over 550 different varities. New cultivated plants, called cultivars, are regularly sent to the rose garden and are tested for color, fragrance among other things. It is reputed to be the oldest operating test rose garden in the United States and is the reason Portland is called The City Of Roses. Portland has many more rose gardens, but The International Rose Garden is the most famous. The rose garden is not Portland's only attraction though.
The trend of micro-brewries came to the United States in the 1980's because it reflected a brewrey that produced less than 15,000 barrels of beer annually. Also, the philiosophy of brewing in micro-brewries came to reflect an attitude of flexibility, adaptability, and superior customer service.
Micro-brewries distribute mainly through wholesalers, some are their own distributor and some sell directly to the customer through a tap room or attached restaurant. There are more micro-brewries per capata in Portland than in any other US city which makes it a city that knows the craft of brewing. But don't take your drink to see The Portland Trailblazers.
The Portland Trailblazers is Oregon's team for the National Basketball Association. They are part of the Western Conference in the Northwest Divison. They were founded in 1970 and have one championship, three conference titles, and four divisional titles to their credit. The Trailblazers play in the Rose Garden Arena which is capable of seating over 20,000 spectators which is located in The Rose Quarter are of Portland.
It doesn't matter why you come to Portland: If it's to see the sights, to take in a Trailblazer game, or tasting some of the best brews in the Northwest, it's a trip you won't soon forget.
