Cheech and Chong Reunion Tour

Light Up America 2008

Well it's finally happened - the moment that stoners, young and old, and veteran hippies alike have all been waiting for; Cheech and Chong have finally reunited. Though they have tried to revive their counterculture comedy show several times in the past, they have always been unsuccessful. That is, until now.

Following their first on screen appearance together in full character in nearly 30 years at the 2008 ALMA Awards, which was taped on August 17 at the Pasadena Civic Auditorium in California and aired on September 12, Cheech Marin and Tommy Chong will be on tour and chances are, coming to a city near you. The pair will be begin their long-awaited comedy reunion tour, Cheech and Chong Light Up America in mid September, and close it out just before Christmas in December of 2008. The tour also includes two dates in Vancouver, Canada to be dubbed Cheech and Chong Light Up Canada. Some cities even feature multiple shows.

Although they decided to go their own separate ways, Cheech Marin and Tommy Chong have both remained in the spotlight. Marin has starred in many different movies since the split, such as "Christmas With The Kranks", "Desperado", "From Dusk Till Dawn" just to name a few. He has also made appearances on several television shows including "Nash Bridges", "Lost", "Mind of Mencia" and more.

Tommy Chong has been in the spotlight over the years as well While he did enjoy some time as a regular on the television series "That 70's Show" and made a few other cameos here and there, his share of the spotlight comes mainly from a completely different reason.

In 2003 he was arrested, charged and plead guilty to one count of conspiracy to distribute drug paraphernalia, for his role in the company Chong Glass/Nice Dreams, which was started by his son to sell glass pipes and bongs over the Internet. He was sentenced to serve 9 months in federal prison, and served from October 8, 2003 to July 7, 2004 in the Taft Correctional Institution in California. As one might expect, there was quite a bit of controversy surrounding this whole situation.

Despite Chong's legal troubles, and Marin's time off from the counterculture character known simply as "Cheech", the two have been able to finally set aside their differences and take their show back on the road. The pair believe that not only is there still a market for "dope" jokes, but that market is bigger than ever before. And I believe they're right.
