Cheerios Cheddar Snack Mix: Review

Surprisingly Good!

You know those Cheerio commercials where the Grandma is giving the adorable little baby her first Cheerios and baby is just learning hand/eye coordination and is having a fabulous time just trying to pick them up off her high chair tray? The message is that some things are universal-- life lessons and that appreciating the little things are important? I love that commercial, but I truly have a hard time getting excited about Cheerios in general, in fact I would venture a guess and say that the last time I really enjoyed eating Cheerios was probably about thirty years ago. They're just... okay.

Which is why I hesitated in buying the Cheerios Cheddar Flavored Snack Mix. Chex mix was right above it and I normally buy Chex, but there was a sale tag on the Cheerios brand and thriftiness prevailed. I noticed that they are "baked, not fried", and that appealed to me. They seemed like a healthy alternative to buying something salty, like chips. I still did not have any real intention of eating them myself, but I thought my kids might like them.

And then yesterday, I skipped breakfast and happened to bring the Cheerio snack mix with us as we ran out the door, still thinking I was looking out for my two year old.

When I opened up the bag to give her some and I looked at them, they looked GOOD. So I popped a few pieces into my mouth as I passed some over to her at the same time. There was a great selection of pretzels, crackers and cheerio pieces within the mix and all had a "cheesy" orange coating over them. I was so surprised at how delicious they tasted. I ate several hand fulls while we were doing errands.

After we got back home and we had a proper lunch, I did a little experiment and tasted them again. I had to prove to myself that I really did like them and it wasn't just that I had been starving and anything would have tasted good. They passed my informal second taste test. I also noted that a serving size is a hefty 2/3 cup and that there is a mere 120 calories and just 4 grams of fat per serving. That is not bad!

Who knew that Cheerios were still tasty? I doubt that my kids will get to finish off the bag, but I will buy more Cheerio Snack mix in the future, so don't feel sorry for them.

I tend to shy away from trying to describe myself in 255 characters or less because I like to think that the sum of who I am is much more indescribable. But here goes! My favorite color is purple, I am ma...  View profile
