Cheerleader Beating Just for Fun

The video posted on the web shows a brutal beating of a young and nearly defenseless young girl by several older and much larger girls who lured her into a private home with the sole intent of inflicting seriously bodily damage.

Six girls and two boys have been arrested and are being charged with the assault.

There is some question as to whether the young victim had done something to provoke the anger of the older girls. There is a rumor that she (the victim) had posted something derogatory about one of the older girls on her My Space website, but his has not been confirmed.

What has been confirmed and admitted to by some of the girls involved in the beating is that they selected this young girl, who was a fellow cheerleader, to be the recipient of this beating and to provide a subject for a shocking video taping, which could then be submitted to You Tube.

According to statements made by one of the girls involved, the victim was called by telephone and asked to stop by the home of one of the girls involved in the plot. The reason for the visit given to the girl was not revealed. When the young girl arrived she was greeted by one girl who had previously been friendly with the victim. Five other girls and two boys hid a back room until the girl was inside.

Once inside the young girl was quickly surrounded by five larger (and older?) girls shouting insults and threats while a sixth girl video taped the action. It was reported that the two boys involved stood watch outside. When the frightened younger girl attempted to respond to the taunts she was struck violently in the head with a series of vicious blows some landing directly on her eyes, others on the nose and ears. The older girls seemed to grow more excited as the victim tried desperately to cover her head and repel the blows.

When one girl would tire from striking the younger girl another would jump in rain a whole new series of blows to the face and neck.

The young girl tried desperately to defend herself and frequently attempted to reach the door and escape, but she was badly out numbered and out muscled by the larger girls. At one point the beaten girl collapsed to floor, but the pummeling continued with the video camera rolling and the camera operator encouraging more action.

The beating went on for 30 minutes. During the 29th minute the camera operator can be heard yelling words to the effect..'make it good I only have 17 seconds of tape left'.

It was brutal and unwarranted beating.

Initial reports from the hospital state that the victim of the beating was treated for a concussion, serious damage to her left eye and ear and multiple bruises all over her face and body. The local news channel report that she has vision impairment in the left eye and can not hear from one ear.

Watching this video one has to be shocked at what has been described as an 'animalistic' attack not unlike what one would see in an uncontrolled mob during a riot. I was struck by the "pack mentality' as the bullyish girls drew on strength of numbers, much like what is seen in a wolf pack when taking down prey. The more the poor victim pleaded and attempted to protect herself the more frenzied the attack became.

In jail, the six girls expressed no remorse and were even reported to be joking about the incident. The one concern expressed by some of the six was that they would have to miss cheerleader practice.

It is frightening to see how little regard these girls had for another human being and how much they seemed to enjoy inflicting pain and suffering in a vulnerable young girl. It is even more disturbing to see the gang assault on one who seemed to be no match for any one of these older, larger girls.

Hopefully, these girls will be tried and sentenced as adults.

A message needs to be sent that such actions will never be tolerated. This would be a good place to start.
