Cheerleading Coach Carlie Beck Fired Over Nude Playboy Photos

Sparks Debate Over Separation of Private and Professional Lives

Carlie Christine, Playboy's "Cyber Girl of the Week" in February, is Carlie Beck, a coach of high school cheerleaders. Or was -- a cheerleading coach, that is. When officials at San Juan Unified School District were made aware that Carlie Beck and Carlie Christine were the same person and that there were nude photos of her on the internet, they terminated her contract as cheerleading coach at Casa Robles High School in Orangevale, California.

Beck said she posed for Playboy before being employed by the school district, which hired her the same month she was Playboy's "Cyber Girl of the Week." The 20-year-old model said, "I feel I was honest and forthright about my modeling history before I was employed."

Carlie Beck paid a stipend to be able to become a cheerleaders coach.

Parents are shocked at the turn of events. Some support the coach, others support the school district's decision to fire her. One parent, Sue Feather, said she felt sorry for Beck but believed that her fired was a good object lesson for her daughter that decisions follow one the rest of their life.

Many students, according to AZCentral.com, seem to find the firing unfair. Many were aware that the cheerleaders' coach, Carlie Beck, was Carlie Christine and were indifferent to it. There was a general feeling that her personal life and her professional life were two different things and that as long as she kept her personal life separate from her cheerleading job, it should not have entered into the decision whether she should retain her position at all.

Carlie Beck said she was disappointed with losing her cheerleading coach position but planned to continue modeling.

Some parents believe the controversy and the firing were a result of disgruntled parents of cheerleaders who did not make the cheerleader squad this year. There are reports that it all began not with the parents but with vengeful cheerleaders who were cut from the squad because of unexcused absences. The girls made sure copies of Carlie Beck's nude Playboy photos landed on the principal's desk.

Beck's firing has touched off a debate over wrongful dismissal. The question most often asked is: Should a person be held accountable for what they do in their private lives as long as what they are doing is not illegal?

Commenting on the AZCentral.com article, albinotoad said, "It shouldn't matter what she did before she was hired if she passed the employment screening and isn't a sex offender."

WillyNilly, commenting on the same article, stated, "Trashy women have no place in the school system. She absolutely should've been fired."

Belinda Joy commented on Wowowow.com that it should be dependent on a morality clause. If signed, then, yes, she should be fired. She continues: "Women who think they can do these things in their private lives with the thought in the back of their minds that their students may stumble across them, yet expect to go on as if that realization should not affect their teacher/student relationship are naive."

Carlie Beck's nude Playboy photos and her being fired from her cheerleading coach position might fuel a controversial debate but it must be understood that we are who we are, that we are judged by our actions, and that no matter our name, what one does is how one is perceived. Carlie Beck has been fired for a past action of Carlie Christine / Carlie Beck. Fairly or unfairly remains a matter of subjective perspective.

The only valid reason to fire her, unless she lied about her past, might be that as a Cheerleader coach she might influence or more of the cheerleaders to pose nude on the internet.

If she were coaching college cheerleaders,it would have been illegal to fire her, unless there were a morals clause. The reason is she would have been coaching young ladies who were already of age.

I do believe it was unfair. The parents didn't have to ruin the coach like that. If they thought it was unfair, they could've brought it to the admin, in discreet fashion. I do think they were just bitter and vengeful.

wesley you are exactly right it's because mommys fat little daughter can't make the cut so fat lazy mom and daughter do anything to get her fired how about the fact they are the ones that bought the porn into the school not the teacher how about the fact the teacher didn't push the subject on any of the kids but the kids blackmailed her for having a life. As far as I'm concerned 4 o'clock school is over let her do her thing she ain't getting paid 24/7. So screw what fat mommy and daughter say and give her, her job back.
