Cheetah Club in West Palm Beach Settles with Man Injured During Lap Dance
Strip Clubs Can Be Dangerous, If Fun, Places
Ireland brought a suit against the club and claimed that he now suffers from "permanent double vision", which, in reality could be a good thing in a strip club when you think about it, but is not something one would want to walk around with in daily life. The Cheetah Club decided to settle out of court and the two parties settled on the voluptuous figure of $650,000.
The entire incident really seems to bring new meaning to 'dangerous girls'.
If it seems odd that the Cheetah Club would simply settle and pay such a large sum of money over an accident, it could be that it would rather not fight it out in court given its recent history involving a couple of incidents. Earlier this year, a group of men leaving the club got into a fight, with one man ending up stabbed in a nearby parking lot. While the Cheetah Club was not held responsible for the fight, it is not the kind of publicity, obviously, that any strip club would want.
The Cheetah Club's owner owned another strip joint, also called "The Cheetah Club", about fifty miles south near Miami. Last year, that now closed club was in trouble for allegedly taping sexual activity that was going on in back rooms. The club had been under investigation for both prostitution and drug dealing.
Southern Florida strip joints are famous around the world for being among the best of the world. But the issues with the Cheetah Club personify, in many ways, the slippery slope that strip clubs represent. Strip joints often provide harmless and fun entertainment for men (and increasingly women), but the line between safe adult entertainment and dangerous and illegal activity can easily be crossed. While strip joints can host fun bachelor parties and after work happy hours, they also can become places where people don't know how and when to stop.
That said, the strip club industry is not going away and it probably shouldn't. But as evidenced by one man's busted eye socket, the Cheetah Club truly was dangerous, for at least one night.
